Stream The New Morrissey, Gomez, Alanis CDs
These albums won't hit stores for another week:
Morrissey: You Are The Quarry - (Attack/Sanctuary
Long-awaited return combines lyrical scorn with classic guitar anthems. This album is fucking awesome. Really. I'm not just saying that 'cause it's Morrissey.
Gomez: Split The Difference - (Virgin Records)
Brainy Brits hone their rootsy vibe and rock harder than usual.
Alanis Morissette: So Called Chaos - (Maverick Records)
Remember when she went down on Dave Coulier in a theater?

I'm so embarrassed. I think I'm digging Morrisette (hides head in shame)

There is something about these new Alanis songs- they seem to start out promising and then when the chorus comes in they have that Alanis polished sound and I guess i hate how she doubles up her voice. A lot of artists do this, I mean it is easy to sing along with yourself, to do those harmonies knowing every turn your voice is going to do and I do this as well when I record but more often than not it is to do harmonies not just double and thicken the mix. I think Alanis has an awesome voice but doubling it in this way cheapens it for me.
Of all these song, "this Grudge" seemed the most real and maybe with all the awfulness of tribal hatreds and war now it's message of forgiveness touched me and thank god she didn't double up her vocals, they just sound raw and real.
