Stream The New Paul Anka

Dude covers Oasis, Soundgarden, Van Halen, and more. I've been talking this up for weeks. Finally, hear the whole thing.

"Stream the new Paul Anka" Isn't that slang for having to go number two?

I guess it's supposed to be funny that Paul Anka covers a bunch of rock songs. It was sort of funny when Tom Jones did it way back with Prince, and even before that when Mel Torme guested on a Was Not Was record. And William Shatner is still good for a chuckle. But now, the idea is not so funny anymore.

its not so much that he covers rock songs that makes it entertaining as it is that he covers rock songs in a completely different style of music. That shit is not easy. I say keep up the Anka!!

Listen not for irony's sake. Listen because it's good. Though the arrangements get schmaltzy Anka's interpretations highlight lyrics that were overshadowed in the original versions.

Doesn't anyone remember when Pat Boone did the same thing, about 10 years ago?

I had just about forgotten until you reminded me kerosene1. Thanks for the nightmares.

Pat Boone got famous doing bad covers of decent songs in the fifties. I think the Anka is appealing for different reasons.

Nope, still not entertaining.

I was surprised to really like Anka's version of "Wonderwall". It's just so loungey it's hard not to like it, especially since it adds a lot of pep to the original. I'm a believer...

Actually, Tony Bennett is also famous for doing swingy style covers. He does it very well, too.

He's almost ten years late doing a lounge version of "Wonderwall" - The Mike Flowers Pops had a #1 UK hit with one.

The tune that really makes my jaw drop is "Teen Spirit". Not to channel the spirit of Joey Lawrence, but Whoah.

Just Whoah.

I've heard Smells like teen spirit on David Letterman. And it was great, even for a heavy rock fan.

I'm gonna get his album!
