Subtle - "Fuck Kelly Osborne"

the caption on the original site is 'Freaked-out leaves start to knock eachother out', I swear

Warp Records has this amazing video by SSSR for a song called "FKO," which, if the UK's Dazed & Confused is to be believed, is short for "Fuck Kelly Osborne." The band behind it, Subtle, is just coming off of a lengthy hiatus (after some sort of horrible bus accident) with a new 12" EP.

Take that Kelly! Awesome video though...the song sounds like the voices in my head.

Dammit! Sorry, kids, but I just found out this was on screenhead months ago...don't hate me if you've seen it before.

I found it while I was trying to dig up more details on a Danger Mouse/Cee-lo project called "Gnarles Barkley".

The good news is, another video by SSSR for Subtle is coming out soon.

i saw subtle at coachella off a recommendation from sage francis. they were fucking bizzare! unlike anything i have ever seen before, or would ever want to see again. mc hammer meets prince meets cursive meets morris day meets queen with really bad stage props. ouch.

thanks for nothing sage! oh except all the years of amazing rhymes/beats. thanks sage.

Subtle's MC is Doeseone (Themselves, ANTICON), he of schooling Eminem at Scribble Jam back in the day. Atleast that's what white underground nerdy hip-hop geeks like to belive.

This is the first part of a trilogy SSSR made for Subtle. The second vid "Long Vein of the Law" has giant animated b/w robots over Dallas (or some Texan city).

I've seen the vid, but could only find stills online:

oh my god, this may be the most insulting thing i've read on stereogum yet... "some sort of bus accident"?!?!? dax is PARALYZED from the neck down, and all you can say is "eh, i dunno, some bus accident..." like a fucking retarded frat boy? gross.

this was news nearly a year ago now, when i first downloaded this album and saw the video. and YES, affirmatively, FKO stands for Fuck Kelly Osbourne... if you actually LISTEN to the lyrics, they say it in the song.

scott, who is this jim douchebag? (i mean, i read the "i'll be having help posting" post earlier, but.... seriously.)

He wrote, "some sort of *horrible* bus accident," actually.

Jen, why'd you drop the word "horrible" from my description? "Some sort of -->horrible<-- bus accident" is what I said and what I meant- feel free to flame me, but don't just make shit up.

I didn't know the details but Lex Records' updates page made it sound like Dax was doing better, so I didn't think I had to go into details. Here's what it says: "Several months on - Dax is in a rehabilitation centre in Texas (read that article below) and Subtle are playing Sonar and Quart festivals this summer and the postponed EP is finally getting a release." From that, I figured that the worst of this was behind him.

If you want to donate money for Dax's recovery, http://www.daxpierson.com/ is the place to go.

rehab center, yes. but that doesn't mean he can get out of a wheelchair.
you did say horrible, true... it just seemed like you brushed off the fact that a man was paralyzed in the accident, which is worth mentioning since they stopped their tour and one person in the band's life was changed forever. disappointed i didn't get to see them live (had tickets)? sure. more concerned over part of a group who put out a great album's health? of course.

and i already donated to dax's recovery when aesop rock passed around a donation bowl at his show back in... march?
you?
thanks, though.

Jen, you seem to have some anger management issues. Guy posts a link to a band you like and instead of thanking him for alerting us all to an obscure band (oh yes they are!) you go off on him for the puniest of reasons. I'd hate to see you angry about something that actually matters - you'd be a spitfire. Why not channel that rage into something useful - writing our president and telling him he's a fuck-wit, perhaps?

Tell Dax Pierson that the details of the bus accident don't matter.

By the way, a quick lesson in How To Use The Subtlety Of Words 101:

The problem is not whether or not you acknowledged that the bus accident was sufficiently horrible or not. It's that you used the vague and dismissive-sounding phrase "some sort of." That implies that you either don't know the details of the accident (which clearly you do), or that you don't care about the details of the accident. I'm not saying that you actually don't care. I'm saying that you chose a really bad way to express yourself, and that Jen was right to get angry about it and to call you on it. If you had simply said "a horrible bus accident," there would be no issue here. The problem has nothing to do with any "anger management issues" on Jen's part. (I don't know Jen, or you, but the dismissive comment by "Uri" got me so angry I had to write this.)

Actually, "Yeah, right you're Uri Geller", I didn't know the details...just that Dax was very, very badly hurt. Not to be dismissive, but, like I said, from what the record label site said, I didn't think I needed to go into them, because I thought the worst of it was over. That's why I said "some sort of", to indicate that I didn't know the details. In retrospect, "a horrible bus accident" would have worked as well.
