Super Furry Animals Will Have A New Album Out Soon

thumbnail icon: Super Furry Animals Will Have A New Album Out Soon

I always think of Gruff Rhys as the gift that keeps on giving because that way I can link that video when we blog about him, but also because of all the SFA albums and the Neon Neon side projects and cetera. According to the Super Furry ones' site, the band is presently working on more presents, cutting their ninth LP which is lacking a title but not availability dates: 3/16 digitally at superfurry.com, 4/13 in the UK via Rough Trade, 4/21 in the States. SFA would like you to know how it will sound:

Musically it's based around riffs and grooves we've been playing around with over the last few years. We have enough now for a whole album so even though it's still very melodic we thought we could leave off the acoustic ballads for the time being.

It's recognisable as a melodic SFA record, but is very focused musically as a cohesive album. And no country rock as Daf has developed a pedal steel phobia. Which has confined the great Nashvillian instrument along with the Saxophone to the banned instrument directive of the SFA board. there's only one slow number which isn't slow at all.

Here's a working tracklist because perhaps that will titillate you:

01 "The Very Best Of Neil Diamond"
02 "White Socks/Flip Flops"
03 "Inaugural Trams"
04 "Sounds Familiar"
05 "Cardiff In The sun"
06 "Where Do You Wanna Go?"
07 "LLiwiau LLachar"
08 "Mountain"
09 "Moped eyes"
10 "Inconvenience"
11 "Crazy Naked Girls"
12 "Earth"
13 "Prick"

SFA also promise "some more tricks up their sleeve" as the release approaches, so we'll keep you looped. In the meantime, remind yourself of their recent glory with this "Neo Consumer" spin on Letterman.

My god I love the super furries. They almost never fail to deliver, and just keep going.

Gruff isn't the only one with side projects: Dafydd released an album earlier this year with his group The Peth (including some semi-famous Welsh guy who I had never heard of) and Cian has the Acid Casuals project, which is frigging great but has been dormant for a while.

Anyways, I'm eager to hear this new album. Hey Venus and Love Kraft were both great. SFA OK!

SOOO looking forward to this one. I loved Hey Venus. At first it sucked having to wait until the physical release here in the US, but the bonus tracks made it into their best album since Radiator. Here's hoping Daf's experience with the Peth will spark a hard rockin revival within the band. Only one question left: Will this album be released on DVD? I miss the visuals and the higher sound quality.
