Ten Years Of Toni Collette

I just saw her at the Virgin Megastore on Sunset this weekend. She looked rather dumpy in real life (and had red hair again) -- way more Muriel than red-carpet diva.

Where were you when the rest of us saw her in "The Hours", "About a Boy", "Velvet Goldmine", "The Sixth Sense", and "Emma"? Stereogum, she deliberately gained about 40 pounds for her role in "Muriel's Wedding." Plastic surgery references are way off the mark, my friend.

woah woah woah-- I agree with stereogum-- A stone cold fox she is not (about a boy was on tv last night, and she was not the primest of peaches...). But I also saw the preview for The Last Shot. My girlfriend's jaw dropped and I didn't know what the problem was-- turn out I didn't recognize Toni at all. She's all bikini'd out and blonde. Crazy crazy.

i bet if she were pulling a full on toothy grin in the 2004 picture, the two photos would look pretty similar. i clean up pretty well, but i can also put on some dumpy-ass expressions like the 1994 picture (if you paid me actors wages).

Well, she's not supposed to be the "bikini'd...blonde" of "The Last Shot" to which you so charmingly refer.

The point is, Toni Collette has not undergone the surgeon's knife to look more attractive today than she did a decade ago. Her transformations in "Muriel's Wedding" and "About a Boy" are what we in the real world call good acting, make-up and costume design.

demetri martin's on comedy central tonight? thx for the tip, stereogum!! (i saw him at piano's for the first time a few weeks ago when i was in nyc -- at the eugene mirman cd recording -- and thought he was great.)

re: toni collette -- i can't say that i think she's had any work done, her weight just fluxuates A LOT -- but i'll wait till i see that trailer to pass judgement.

Anybody notice the extreme Courtney Love resembelence? All Collette has to do now is go completly fucking bonkers and take shitloads of oxycotin and shes a total dead ringer for Ms. Love. Something she should consider for the publicity alone. And if that doesen't work Courtney can hire Toni as her body double so she can skip court and go on more drug induced robery sprees without the hassel of explaining her absence to the judge.

Feh... She looks a tad better than she did 10 years ago, but there is such a fakeness to the surgery. She looks a bit stretched in the skin and such...

We need more Kate WInslet's on screen!

Also, Demetri Martin is the most amazing comedian to come out of NYC in a while. No disrespect to other alternative comics in NYC--such as the over-rated Todd Barry--but if you've seen them once, you've seen them a thousand times. Demetri Martin is truly creative and funny and each time I've seen him perform he's always had new material and has always been quite good. And thankfully he's a writer for Conan also...

BTW, I know I said "no disprespect to other...comics" but Todd Barry is seriously over-rated. He's just not funny and quite predictable.

The ignorance of these respondents re. Toni Collette is depressing and disgusting.
Some in the film industry believe she is the finest living actor.
She has made 27 movies and is currently working on #28, "Like Minds"
Her looks can be absolutely stunning or drab and she has the most beautiful eyes on the planet.
