Testing For The Rock Gene
Gene Simmons talks about his show "Rock School" on VH1 in The Guardian with characteristic aplomb:
While Simmons denies that he is acting in the programme, it seems likely that he is permanently in character, playing the role of Gene Simmons. Like a veteran Jewish comic, he knows his patter and sticks to the shtick, emphasising gags with a raised eyebrow or a hint of wink. All that is missing is a drum roll and the crash of cymbals. "I don't subscribe to that humble thing," he says, embarking on another routine. "I subscribe to the Muhammad Ali school of semantics, although I'm not anti-semantic." He raises an eyebrow and peers at me over his shades. "If you use that I want credit."One expects nothing less from the man who so famously bested NPR interviewer Terry Gross.
He's even gone to all the trouble of collecting praise for his show on his website.

Too bad Kiss sucks and Gene Simmons sucks. i wish they would shut the fuck up and go away, and take the Eagles with them.

Wow, that's quite the interview. There must've been a lot of Gene Female Philosophy to edit for his reality show. Quite a character.
And for the record, KISS's debut album is better than any rock album of the past 5 years. They don't make them like they used to.

Did Gene Simmons really best Terry Gross? It didn't really seem that way to me.

I'd give it to Terri Gross on points. Gene Simmons lost points with correcting her pronunciation of 'yeshiva'. But still- the all-time most entertaining/ most painful 'Fresh Air' ever.

Gross more than held her own with Simmons, calling him out as a loudmouth 16 year old. His last-minute retort was pure evidence of that--"You want to have sex with me. I win. Ha ha."
I found the Bill O'Reilly interview to be much more contentious and awkward, and I think Gross came out on top there, too.
