That Song From Last Night's Six Feet Under

It's called "Breathe Me" by Sia. Interesting choice for the series finale. RightClickSaveAs and pretend you're Claire driving down the highway:
Sia - "Breathe Me" (MP3 Link Expired)

Bonus:
Sia - "Breathe Me (Mylo Remix)" (MP3 Link Expired)

Four Tet, Ulrich Schnauss, and Mr. Dan also have remixes worth searching out.

The Four Tet mix is my favorite

I wonder if this placement on the show on the soundtrack will do anything to find her excellent "Colour The Small One" album get a US release?

I met Sia last May at the Non-Comm radio convention in Louisville where she was performing with Zero 7. I had just imported the album and singles and asked her if the disc would come out here in the states. She said, at the time, that Interscope had the first option on the album (as she is on Go!Beat/Universal overseas) and that she wasn't sure if they were going to put it out or not.

Of course, a year has passed and while Interscope picked up the very deserving Feist album from Universal France, I'm still hoping that they give Sia a release as well...

Um... I did not -- thought it was tre fake, wondered if it was done on purpose. The cruiseship scene I could not take seriously at all. Which is a shame, as I would have sobbed the hardest for Rico, that little nugget of a man, had his death not been so hilariously phony.

The whole room burst out laughing when Billy came on.

I'm still getting over my grief for the end of the show!!

Oh great. Now I am going to start crying again.

I think the super-futuristic stuff was a little tongue-in-cheek. Six Feet Under always did have a sense of humor.

And yes - Billy talking about being "emotionally available" at 8 gazillion years old was pretty funny.

Not ashamed to admit I was touched, deeply. To have given us a happy ending for everyone in the first sixty minutes, and then to take everyone away in the last four minutes... it was harsh. As for the "future" costuming and set design, whatever. The horrible age-imitating make-up job? Whatever. This last episode was about saying goodbye, and accepting that everything ends, and everyone dies. And yes, I've been pretending I'm Claire all morning.

what was cool about the futuristic stuff was that they tried at all. and i agree it was tongue in cheek. it was supposed to be fresh and fun like when nate is belting out the christian rock in claire's dream. if you wanted something you could "take seriously" then i don't think you get the show at all.

The show became more depressing towards the end. I mean not just in the fact that it was ending, but because the storylines just became more tragic.

I think that's why I stopped watching religiously after the third season, I was far too depressed from just watching the show.

I have to say I'm in the "Six Feet Under" ="Pretentious Soap Opera" camp. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I found the storylines and characters over-the-top in a punishingly depressing way. I also thought the show was a little simpleminded and aggressively preachy. But that's just my two cents.

Cried like the little bitch I am. I love that it was Claire we saw the ending through - after David, she's my favorite.

I liked the future stuff - but poor, poor Brenda still listening to Billy rant after all those years!!!!! Horrible way to die.

I am still a bit disappointed they never completely explained the Brenda/Billy thing. What happened when they were kids? Did they ever? Instead they played the 'Flowers In The Attic' tease, and then dropped it.

It was, essentially, a pay cable Soap Opera... but the subject matter and quality of writing and acting made it more then that.

I loved to make fun of it, but now I already miss it like the death of a dear friend I've become close to for the past six years. Last night was the funeral, and this morning is the hangover.

I'm glad they at least left one loose end - did mousey Maggie have Nate's baby or not?

Of note: HBO's soundtrack listing left off the Lyrics Born song ("I Changed My Mind") playing during Claire's going away party. It was also the ending song to Entourage's prior episode... maybe that's why they left it off this week's SFU listing.

I don't think 6 Feet Under is like a soap opera at all. Why? Because the actors are incredible. They allow viewers to capture and understand every complexity associated with their character. Ruth, David, Ricardo - doesn't get much better than that. I am glad they ended it with Claire too - she's really come into her own. Also glad to see that most deaths were from old age; they've all suffered enough.

Not sure about the whole cruise scene either; Ricardo deserved a better way to die. I was dying when I saw Billy! I was also happy to see that Claire and Brenda become close. Poor, poor David.

I guess any long-term show involving an ensemble cast could be considered soap opera-ish. That's just the nature of the show. If you were to take the high points from anyone's family life and broadcast it, it would probably seem like that, too. And if it wasn't very interesting, that's why they don't make television shows about completely "ordinary" people.

I am off to listen to that damn song again and try not to sob at my desk like the dork I am.

HBO captured lightening in a bottle with Sex in the City, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under and it is definitely sad to seem them all end one by one. I think it will be a while before a network can click on all cylinders like that again. Sunday nights won’t be the same!

Think what you will about it being a soap opera or not. I can understand why people could place it in that category; it is a continuing story of a group of characters - but we're missing the larger picture. Six Feet Under opened every door and touched every taboo known to man in its first episode and never looked back. Think about it: killing of a main character five minutes into the pilot, promiscuous sex, gay and bi-racial relationships, drugs - that is writing and acting which breaks the boundaries of what we are used to seeing as well as what we are comfortable seeing. You are introduced to characters you feel some real connection for, no matter how foreign they appear. You can't say that about a "soap opera."

Thank you Alan Ball for giving us a show that looked at things from a different perspective and thanks to a terrific cast who took the words on paper and transformed them into stories we will never forget. Six Feet Under is a show that stayed true to itself until the very end. For that, Six Feet Under deserves the ultimate praise.

Hmmm. Ted an asshole? What, as opposed to any of the people Claire met at art school? If you missed the fact that they were complete idiots, then I'd say you missed whole layers of this show. Ted was the first guy she met who wasn't a complete lunatic and he did everything right at the end, esp when she was drunk and he forgave her.

Fave SFU scene: A few years ago when David and Keith run into each other at the church and Keith tells David how beautiful and kind he is and David is so surprised to hear it. This show's hallmark is dragging viewers through complete hell and then giving them a few moments of beautiful dialog that kind of mend the whole thing.

As for the OC comparison, all I can do is laugh. Although I love Rachel Bilson. She is a wee kitten.

But whatever. I'm a person with layers, and well fuck if you're going to be ashamed of something let it be something other than SFU which was a great show, with great characters and intriguing writing that makes up the whole deal.

SIx Feet Under takes soap-operaesque plots and places them with realistic characters that real people can relate to. Think about it: no matter how much we learn in life, there are some lessons that take years, decades, or never get learned, and even when we want to change or think we have, we regress just enough to make it more of a struggle for ourselves and those around us. We spend our whole lives making the same mistakes again and again, learning a little at a time, stepping forward, then back, sometimes missing steps altogether. That's life. And it's serious. And it's not. And it's nuerotic. And it's irreverent. And sometimes it's cheesy as hell. SFU captures all those things really well, and that is why it rocks.

[Rico is not short for Ricardo, it's short for Federico.]

That being said, anyone comparing Six Feet Under to a soap opera has clearly never seen a soap opera before, as soap operas are completely and utterly ridiculous, the majority of actors are tolerable at best, there is very little complexity and there is NO consistency. If you disagree, watch an episode of Guiding Light/All My Children/etc. and tell us (oh wise ones) where these various similarities are.

Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot that the comments had little to do with reality and all to do with "shitting on that which is alternative yet too mainstream to enjoy".

I have to say that Six Feet Under is one of the best shows I have ever seen. I'm not really a T.V. kind of person, but this show had me from the first time I layed eyes on it, until the final credits rolled Sunday night. As far as the final episode, the last few minutes where Claire is driving and she sees the lives of everyone progress and eventually die was so beautiful. If you watched the 2 part commentery, Mr. Ball says that he was going to push the boundries and make us face something that Americans don't speak of. Death. I think the ending is so important because it makes us face the death of the show and the characters, but, at the same time, lets us explore their lives in snapshots of linear time. You see all of the people in various age groups and you can't help but think about people in your own lives that are Ruth's age to Claire's age. It didn't seem completly real to me until the last minute when Claire is in her room and you see all of her photos of Ted and David and Kieth and the picture of the ripped up face she did in art school. Then her eyes mute and you see Claire Simone Fisher 1983-2085 and it just slapped me right in the face. It made me think because I was born in 1983 as well and it just expressed that feeling of time as linear. I really connected to it. It was just...wow.... The song made it that much more heart wrenching and powerful too. I'm really going to miss Six Feet Under! Thank heavens for DVD, right!?!?

Right before we see Claire and Ted get married, we see a room full of family and friends. David is alone because Keith was gone at that point and Anthony and Durell are all grown up sitting on opposite sides of the front row. One sits next too another woman and a child, and the other in the foreground, sits holding another mans hand. Ahh... do we think little Anthony or Durell followed in his fathers footsteps?

It was neither pretentious or derivative, or any of the other things jaded people say because they think that is what is expected of them.

Anyone who does not see the level of quality in the writing here obviously did not grow up on reruns of "Three's Company".

No doubt those some people would find the drivel we were forced to watch in the 60's and 70's as
"groundbreaking"....give me a break.

It was good television, better than we have become accustomed to. Only people are pretentious.

In response to some earlier comments, it was extremely clear, during the montage, that (1) little Anthony was gay, that (2) Durrell was straight with wife and children, that (3) Brenda began dating again, that (4) Ted remained Claire's true love (there is no other reason that she would have ever associated herself with someone like him), that Ruth started her doggie-day care, that (5) all of the characters were finally able to live their lives as they wanted, and that (6) the death of Nate and the subsequent resolutions of the long-standing conflicts (Ruth-Brenda, Claire-Ruth, David--virtually everyone, Keith--his sons, Ruth-George, etc.--unfortunately Billy is incapable of resolving any of his conflicted relationships because he is some much of a freak) allowed these characters to throw off the weight of grief that had been caused by death and to, ultimately, allow them to live long, successful, and happy lives. Poor Keith in the end, though.

The ending of SUF was the most powerful piece of television that I have ever seen

I had a good laugh reading everyone's comments...the good and the bad. If Six Feet Under is soap-opera-ish, what does that say about the rest of the crap on TV?
I think it was likely the best show on TV of its kind and I will dearly miss it after all these years of eagerly anticipating it. It felt like an old friend and as though I somehow experienced all that they went through.
Terrible that it's ended but it had to. The finale was like no other and was really well done. Haunting, yet slightly hopeful, all the way to the end. Amazing. Fantasic. Good choice of song at the end too.

I'm still grieving, three days later.

The final montage was one of the most powerful scenes I've ever seen on a television show ... it rocked me to my core and had me bawling my eyes out--not just because I was grieving for lost friends (the Fishers and co.), but because of how it made me think of my own family and friends, and the indelible imprint they've made on my own life.

Three scenes stand out for me: 1) Ruth reconciling with Brenda on the steps was so uplifting and satisfying; 2) the family dinner near the end where they toast Nate showed me a family finally at ease with actually being a truly happy family unit--and how ironic that most in attendance weren't actually blood-relationed but were more of what we see as our extended family; and 3) that moment when David sees a vibrant, young and sexy Keith the moment before he dies. This last scene will live with me forever. I can only hope that the last vision I see before I die is that of my longtime partner.

OK, enough. I'm tearing up again, and the folks at work are going to wonder what the heck is wrong with me.

Thank you, Alan Ball, and to all the actors, writers, directors and support staff who gave us five seasons of TV's most amazing drama ever. You've left us at way too young an age, but we'll cherish our memories forever.

When this show ended I was blown away. All because of the final 5 minutes. I think a lot of it had to do with the song. I think if any other song is played the ending would have been good but I don't think it would have been as powerful as it was. I said to myself "that was the best freaking finale I have ever seen" It is great to know that so many others feel the same way. I can't get that song out of my head 3 days later and it still gives me goosebumps and gets me reary eyed and I am not that type of person to get like that over a movie or tv show. I think that says a lot.

I watched SFU religiously. I somewhat almost lost a boyfriend over how dedicated I was to it. (How SAD it THAT?) :P... Anyway, although I recognize that there is only so much more they can do with characters that show how fuct-up we all are, I will truly miss one of the best things to happen to television, as American Beauty was to cinema. To be honest, I thought the final episode was ULTRA-self-loathing, and over-dramatic.....BUT....the final 6 mins were VERY moving. The make-up was generally good and believable I thought [Even though it looked a little corny, it will probably get an Emmy nomination]. The fact that Claire got married to that guy felt good since he seemed to be the most down-to-earth and caring. I thought it was very good they showed David and Keith getting married. Ruth dying with this look from the Nates like "you'll be at peace with US now..." was beautiful. And David dying over reliving the vision of Keith was cute and moving. And I thought it was beautiful that they ended with Claire's 100-year-old blind eyes...I bawled randomly for the next 15 to 20 minutes at least. (And from the gay point of view, I liked that they showed Claire's boyf's butt earlier in the episode. He's not really my type, but man, is he CUTE!) And I will always mourn a show that will probably never have another reach it's magnitude.

Rant: I think it's stupid that, ever since Family Guy had a tiny little comment about Six Feet Under being "pretentious," everyone thinks they are perceived as intelligent and witty when they use their new big word.

Question: Why do you tink they didn't include George's death in the end?

^^yeah, interesting that they didn't show george's death, or maggie's for that matter.
Just reading the comments is making me tear up, what a weenie. And about Ted...opposites attract, he was a good man. Enough said.

I have been watching Six Feet Under religiously since it first came on. The characters grew on me and I found myself attached to this fictitious world, that I never expected to become attached to. For all of the people who believe this show was pretentious, this show was about life. For what life really is; happiness, depression, the ups, the downs, and all of the bullshit in between. On another note, I loved the season finale. I thought it was done well, and kept true to what the show was and what it was about. P.S. Stereogum, thank you so much for putting Sia's song Breathe Me on your website. Now I have a great song to listen to when I'm at work.

Losing Six Feet Under was a huge blow for me. Days later and I'm still balling just listening to Sia's song. How could you not fall in love with a show that dealt with losing as an everyday concept? It's a little ironic that the show dealt with losing people and things you loved when the show is now over. With the charming wit and characters you could connect with, how is this show not the best thing on TV?

I have been so haunted by its emotional ending. The last scenes where we see everyone being touched by death have forced me to acknowledge the reality, inevitability, and proximity of death. Watching Claire drive on what seemed an infinite road, unknowing when her final days would be, has left an imprint on me. Six Feet Under has given me a new appreciation for the brevity and fragility of life itself.

George wasn't included in the end because he wasn't really part of the family. Part of Ruth's life, yes, but not the _family_. Everyone else we saw was.

Yes, including Kieth and Brenda.

Well, I began watching after my father-in-law died and it helped me a lot. I missed him so much.I found comfort in it somehow. The other funny thing is I am about to have an empty nest and both of my younger daughters are heading to NYC. One to FIT and the other to SVA. My daughters and I just couldn't believe Clair was going there. We had just gotten back from NY on Monday and had missed the finale bacause we didn't want to lose time playing in NY watching TV but we watched it Monday and our mouths dropped open. This show was the one time a week all my kids, their boy friends, my husband and I got together. For dinner and 6 Feet Under.Sparked many great conversations and laughter.

Anyway, I really have to disagree about the soap opera thing. Soaps and night time dramas are so cheesy with slow dialog. The show actually had amazing acting and script. There were so many time when I couldn't believe what I was watching and hearing. Two that come to mind are Frances Conroy wailing at the grave and then again when she was singing the Joni Mitchell song. How about Patricia Clarkson sticking her foot up in the are and saying that about Bush. The caliper of actors was amazing. I have never seen anything on TV come close. So much talent from film and theater. Wow, I savored every bite and will miss my weekly fix though I have bought all the season on DVD. I totally fell in love with Patricia Clarkson.

I loved how everyone was quirky. Most people are and now I look at society a little more forgiving.

Well, I loved the show and actually bought a dish just so I could watch it. I just hope something new is created that can keep my attention the way it did.

It is funny, every show started with someone dying in the most bizarre way yet they all pretty much died normal deaths.

Did anyone else try reading Stiff? I did and it took a lot to read but I was curious. This show was tame compared to that read. Many times I would have to take a break and go outside to catch my breath.

Sia and Arcade fire are now on my Ipod shuffle. That is another thing. They always had awesome music.

Thanks everyone for sharing . It was fun to read.

Can't believe there are still comments going on about this (except that I'm still pondering it too), so I must add another. The Wire was the first show (I've seen anyway) that ends its seasons with a huge montage, answering questions and revealing entire story lines in a single image. It blew me away. Then Alan Ball used the same technique, put it on steroids, and kicked us all in the gut with it. Brilliant.

I don't believe Maggie was pregnant with Nate's baby. She had her carry case of pharmaceuticals with her. Too much time had lapsed between his death and her scene for her to not have been hugely showing. It would have been an event that would not have allowed for the ending to happen the way that it did. You didn't see Billy die and you didn't see George die because they were just indirectly affiliated with the Fishers, as is the same with Maggie. There should have been a child in the montage at the end if she was pregnant.

I am pretty sure that everyone whose death was shown in the montage was in the first episode. Not completely sure about Keith, but I think he was. If it had just been "who was part of the family", it would have extended to Maya, Willa, Durrell, and Anthony. It was about the people whose stories we've followed.

Someone mentioned that they can't think of any other songs that might have been appropriate for the final montage. I like this track by Sia a lot and I'm glad to have discovered it through SFU, but I still want to have some fun and suggest some other tracks! Hunt down "Gorecki" by Lamb (the trip-hop number that says, "gonna stay right here til the end of time, til the earth stops turning / gonna love you til the seas run dry"), "Shining Road" by Cranes (with lyrics and melodic structure as appropriate to Claire's situation, state of mind, and future-montage as those of the Sia song), and "The Landscape" by Miranda Lee Richards (elegaic, and no, I'm not the same Miranda!). See what you think... would they also have been appropriate for the end of SFU? It's fun to play with stuff like this. I like to consider these three because they are similarly emotional and intense, similarly lengthy, and at least the first two end with lengthy instrumental sections that are not too far removed from the one in "Breathe Me".

Life is depressive, with its moments of happiness, this is what makes life worth living, the moments of happiness. It’s these moments that we yearn, we stride for. If life was just happiness where would the joy come from? Without light there is no dark, if you do not know pain, how can you know what happiness is?

This is what the show showed, that happiness and life can be found amidst the pain and death of life. At the end however it is merely a television show and one should not look to it for a great amount of inspiration, this is what real life is for. If the show left you with anything after 5 years it should be that you should live…for time is fleeting.

I'm glad to see postings by others who have had the same reaction to and appreciation of SFU as I have. From the beginning I realized that this show contained characters and stories much richer than practically any other program I have ever seen.

Really, just the way Nate always said "Hey" whenever he walked into a room showed that he was always the same Nate - always the same intonation, the same personality behind the voice.

During the last episodes I was so afraid of Brenda assuming Maya's upbringing. I missed any indication of Maya's future in the finale. Brenda had seemed like family was such a foreign concept to her. I think she finally started to catch on during the finale.

Throughout the five seasons, I never ever really liked Claire. I just wanted her to grow up and get a grip. The finale was her tour-de-force, in my opinion. Her reluctance to say goodbye, even to a family and life she detested, made her so human. Too often I've had to say goodbye with the same emotions, and it is so difficult.

The final episode was just about perfect in my opinion. I had been afraid that the characters and story line would end like a European film - in a moment of ordinary life that indicated nothing about the future; that deciding what happened to everyone would be an exercise left up to the viewer.

It was a brilliant series.

Everything about this show was amazing. Yes, the characters made us mad or sick and we didn't always like them. Pretentious? How? I say bullshit. Tnis show is so unique. Just the fact that we all ARE going to lose everyone that we love and know someday is so moving and true. I held out against Ted as well, but he was sweet and real. I think the whole point was that is the last type of person claire pictured herself with. (Ted's deeply un-hip mix)turned out to be pretty hip? Breathe me is super beautiful. Bye six feet under! I, too, found this site only because I was looking for that song on Claire's drive. But I'm glad I found the site and got to read all of your great comments:

I agree that SFU is miles ahead of conventional television. The only similarity it has to soap operas is nonstop crying scenes. The level of acting couldn't possibly be any more far apart. Watch SoapNet and an SFU episode back-to-back, and you'll see.

I always thought the ending might have had the following twist: The ENTIRE FIVE SEASONS would've all been a dream. Nathaniel's dream, after being hit by the bus. He would've been hospitalized, and, at the end, all the "tombstones" would lose their death dates and we'd flash back to Nathaniel in the hospital, recuperating. Maybe some characters that he "dreamt" about, like Bettina, would be a nurse.

Ok, a little out there - but I figured, why not?

Anyway, the REAL ending was incredible, I agree. Song and all! And the glimpse into the future was simultaneously anguishing and irresistible!

I agree, Brenda's death while Billy was ranting was hilarious! She died with a "shut the f**k up already!" look on her face.

I wonder why Anthony is gay. Is it a statement that there are more closet homosexuals out there than meets the eye (to the tune of 50%) and so having gay parents would make one more aware of his or her sexuality? Is it a statement on nurture? (One kid is gay, one marries a white woman. Both taking examples from their fathers)

I'm interested to hear what people think. Or was it simply: "It is what it is, no analysis?"

As a sucker for happy endings, I wasn't happy that Nate died when he did. Actually, I would've liked to have seen him wind up with Maggie - as they seemed to hit it off without pushing each other's buttons.

As for Ted, I didn't really like him. Not because of his politics, but because he seemed too "un-hip" for Claire. Though I agree that he was, by far, the most normal guy she ever was involved with, making him the best marriage material by default.

Claire was my favorite - so I'm glad she made it to 102!

I liked Nicolai as minor characters went. He was hilarious!

Felt bad that Keith died so tragically, and laughed when a roly-poly Rico tumbled over.

And who would have thought George would stick around until one of his wives died, for once!

It was so sad, seeing the lives of all these characters I felt connected to jump through time as well as realize that such a beautiful show was ending. They presented each character in all their complexities, and I loved how there were no villains. Even David's attacker had a story to tell. There is nothing on television like it, and there never will be. They should have done something on George, I always liked that crazy old man, and he did watch two of his wives die. RIP SFU

It is October 22, 2005, and I am still incredibly haunted by the ending - SAD, isn't it! I have a life, which I do live, believe me - it is just that the finale was so incredibly powerful. I have always been one of those "time travelers" who still cannot grasp the fact that I am now the age my parents were when I thought they were ancient and finally understand what my mother meant when she said "it hurts to get old and I do not mean physically." What an incredibly prophetic "trip" that whole ending was - completely indescribable except to those of you who I know can relate on the level I am talking about. Anyone else still reeling?

I have to admit the first time I watched SFU i was not as impressed as I thought I would be. However, watching the seasons as they passes till the final episode I almost felt a part of my life end. Although it was just a tv show I felt the same way at a small age about twin peaks. Another disturbing but twisting same show with odd humor. I was very young when "twin peaks" was a tv show and not allowed to watch it, but got to listen to it on AM radio and view it at a older age with much enthusiasm. Still the odd way that twin peaks and six feet under was is a humor that still haunts me after the series has been dismissed.
As many episodes as I have finally seen for both series the end song of Sia "Breathe Me" haunts me more than the twin peaks song. Maybe i idenitfy with it more, i don't know, who knows really

Soap Opera. Maybe, but unlike any daytime soap opera this series was intelligently written.

This was a series with an underlying theme that was addressed in throughout the series - throughout our life we are faced with problems that almost seem insurmoutable. If we provide enough time, the pain associated with those problems can be reduced, especially with the help of others.

The show addressed several atypical problems. A few of these problems will be ones that will all experience at some point in our lives.

I found that some of the episodes were unrealistic, and that took a little from the show. The finale made up for these episodes and I consider it to be one of my favorite TV episodes ever. The writers accomplished one important task. They wrote them show we would learn to love each of them and their idiosyncracies. I love the ending; it was the appropriate finish for this show.

This is not a show about death. It is a show about life.

Kudos to the writers

I saw the last three episodes only a few days ago and I think that they were some of the best things I have ever seen. Unlike a lot of posters, I wasn't that moved by the finale. I still don't know if I liked how it ended. I felt that the way everyone's life's were shown in sped up form sort of cheapened everything. I can't really explain it but it kind of frightened me. I was very moved however during Nate's funeral. I was sobbing as though it was a family member that had died. It was very tragic and I felt deeply for all of the characters there (especially David). I would like to say that this show is the best drama ever. I usually don't watch tv dramas as I find them predicatable and formulaic, but this was different. This was as good as anything ever made for tv or cinema. But I still don't think Nate should have died. It's just way too tragic.

I put the song from the final montage on my desktop for easy ascess. Finished the show 4 days ago. I cried so much during that whole series. Nate was good at changing his voive, like when he 1st told his brother he was dying...
I popped.
I have watched the final montage about 20 times, and still when they show Ruth look at Nate, then small smile, and grief grips George's face- As it fades and shows Ruths name, the hairs on my arm stand up. Oh yeah, When Rico broke while eulogizing Nate, I exploded.
THis show gave me all kinds of release. Excellent. The cool thing about really liking something, is you dont care if someone calls it a soap opera. Just keep it coming.

Like a lot of the posters here, I found this page looking for the song that plays during the final SFU montage. The sequence was a fitting coda to a satisfying series finale.

Soap opera, "pretentious", whatever ... the show was superbly acted, compelling and deeply touching. I did have my doubts about whether the writers would tie things up in a satisfying way, especially after the principal characters seemed to indulge in their chronic self-victimizations and failures to communicate in the 2nd-to-last episode (Nate's funeral) yet *again*. But they pulled it off. The characters let go of major destructive patterns, grew, and moved forward in significant and hopeful ways. No postmodernist, nihilistic, "life sucks" messages here.

For those who have only seen the series on TV, I recommend getting access to the final season DVD (e.g., from your library, Blockbuster, or Netflix). The included documentaries are worth seeing for any fan of the series. I also found Alan Ball's commentary on the finale worth watching - despite that I am not at all a fan of such commentaries.

And, of course, with the DVD you can watch the final montage as many times as you want. Many people I valued and loved have died in the last two years. Watching or just visualizing that poignant sequence unfailingly puts me in touch with the emotions from those losses. When Ruth sees Nate smiling softly at her as she is dying, and when David sees a younger Keith giving him that Keith half-smile just before he dies, I still lose it. I also like the humorous momements, such as when Billy bores (Alan Ball's word) Brenda to death, still complaining about Claire breaking up with him.

An earlier poster mentioned the "obituaries" posted on the HBO/SFU website. It was not obvious to me how to find them from the SFU home page. Here is the main URL: http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/obituary/episode63.shtml

Soap opera, "pretentious", whatever ... the show was superbly acted, compelling, deeply touching and - above all - highly original. I did have my doubts about whether the writers would tie things up in a satisfying way, especially after the way the principal characters seemed to indulge in yet another round of self-victimizations and failures to communicate in the 2nd-to-last episode (Nate's funeral). I had to think over and again. After being a Tori fan since Crucify, I have to say I felt that Sia may be Tori. But maybe not. I was nervous, did I not know Tori as I thought I had? Though I like the song Breath me, I don't need another Tori. She would have done it better.

As a six feet under fan, i started watchin the show, in 02, i became a fan, as i watched, i fell in love with it, as i was taking care of my mom, yea, im a gay son, so what. I lost my mom in 03, but at the time, i didnt think i could watch the show anymore. But what i found, was i could, and it hurt, i admit. I cancelled HBO, so i didnt get to finish watching the last yr, untill today. And it brings back alot of pain, but something more, as i type this, i do feel happy, in a way. I know it sounds odd, or stupid, but when claire drives off into her future, that song, makes me cry, but i feel emotion. I didnt know who that song was by, or the name, but i found it. SIA, Breathe me. Guess thats all i wanted to say.

I know that no one probably looks at this page anymore since the series ended quite sometime ago. However, I was one of those unfortunate souls who did not see SFU when it was originally on the air, but instead had to watch the reruns on Bravo. Never have I fallen so hard and so in love with a television series before and I am a TV Junkie. Last night they played the final episode, my first time every seeing it. It is still haunting me and bringing tears to my eyes as I write this. You know that it was an amazing show if it can affect you or anyone else in such a way. It is amazing that it only ran for five seasons, we all, I am sure, wish that it could have gone on forever. I dont really know what else to say except I am speechless and still just in total shock and awe nearly 24 hours after I was fortunate enough to watch this masterpiece of an episode. I have to raise 200 dollars so that I can buy the series on DVD!

I was going through and deleting all my old bookmarks when I came across this page.

Like everyone else, I found this page looking for the name of the montage song in the finale. To this day, I watch 6FU on dvd and my computer and enjoy it like the first time I watched it. No other TV show or movie has had me hooked like this.

Never been a fan of TV series and only discovered Six Feet Under by mistake. Was so hooked by the first episode, had to go out and buy the hole boxset (found it 2nd hand for only £40 - RESULT). Watched it back to back in a month. Most probably the most moving 6 minutes of TV ever

Could you please upload these again?

Do you have the extended version that was played on Six Feet Under?
