The Crane Wife: Behind The Scenes

Being in the Decemberists isn't all fun and games. Sure, there's plenty of thesaurus reading and sea shanty singalongs ... but you've also gotta deal with publicity. This video takes us behind the scenes of the Crane Wife photo shoot. Yeah, it's just b-roll, but some of you Colin Meloy fanatics will get a kick out of it. And to think the new album cover could've looked like the Donnas' Spend The Night!

A Stereogum.com premiere:

Album's out 10/3. Stay tuned to decemberists.com.

Talked with Chris Walla a bit about the new record the other night at the SD Def Cab show. No nautical songs but it sounds amazing. He produced it and he still can't stop listening to it. Can't wait.

I own "Cutouts"..I always forget how quirky and talented they are...I'm actually looking forward to this. Oh, and the backing music sounds so distinctly Walla it's not funny. He's going to tbe the indie rock Dre or Pharrel

its pretty good. theirs a track called the shankill butchers that is, as you can imagine, pretty memorable and the heir apparent of the nautical ditties in my opinion.

Ya it is pretty good. it's been leaked ALREADY. Summersong and Sons and Daughters are excellent, as well as the two eleven minute songs. Can't wait to see them in columbus in november

that was all very boring. i'm not especially looking forward to the new album, though i'm sure it'll be a good listen, if i'm ze mood.

i haven't listened to any decemberists in a long, long time & don't really have the urge to start right now. not that i don't like 'em, they just aren't a particularly appealing band. whatev.

their literary "i was raised in a small fisherman's village by a man with boots of fire, in 1863" spiel is kind of old... but i'll still check this new album out.

Where can I apply to be the dude who comments on every stereogum post that the subject of the post sucks? That seems like a cool job.

less of a job, and more of a calling. more of a diversion. call it trolling-lite.

as mentioned, the album is very leaked, and pretty good. i say old, but i will always have a soft spot in my heart for them.
