The "Hello" Project

No list of the all-time awesomely bad videos is complete without a top-two slot for "Hello" by Lionel Richie (that's The Simple Life star's adopted father, kids). Whit jogged our love for the clip the other day with a link to The "Hello" Project, in which a group of sculptors are blindfolded and made to reconstruct the jeri-curled cranium of our favorite Richie, just to show how hard it would be for the video's sightless heroine to replicate Lionel's classically beautiful features (were she actually sightless). Watch it here, and be sure to take it to the end for a compare-and-contrast session of the sculptors' results.

And now a little blast from the past, all the way from '05 ... our play-by-play in pics of the world's most perfectly terrible video. Enjoy.

See him stalking his blind student? Creepy.

Every breath you take, every move you make... Nice sweater.

He even follows her to dance class. Shouldn't she be dancing on the ceiling?

Better.

He calls her at home. It's the '80s so she doesn't have Caller ID.

"Hel-loooooooooooo."

"Is this Billy Ocean! It's Billy Ocean isn't it?!"

"No no no. It's Professor Richie."

"Oh."

Alas, she falls for him.

"Hi. I have a surprise for you."

"Hel-loooooooooooo. It's beautiful."

"No, you're beautiful. Although I do have blindness of the eyes."

THE END.

I always thought the sculpture looked less ridiculous than Lionel Richie's actual face.

"He calls her at home. It's the '80s so she doesn't have Caller ID."

Uh, somehow I don't think it would have helped her anyway.

Thank you, I'm Mr. McSmartassenstein.

I still want to know if the play being rehearsed in the beginning of the video is a real play. I want to know more about the star-crossed love between ex-con Billy-boy and the young Amanda.

I love how he wants to take her to the movies. She's BLIND! It's bad enough that Lionel asks if she's *looking* for him.

Did anyone notice one of the sculptures ended up looking like Little Richard?

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt
