The Jesus Lizard Are Back

thubmnail icon: The Jesus Lizard Are Back

One of the greatest live bands ever, the Jesus Lizard have reunited to play some dates in 2009. (Seeing them at CBGB's in '92 was maybe the best show I've ever witnessed.) For the first time in a dozen years, you'll be able to witness the incomparable original lineup of Duane Denison, David Wm. Sims, Mac McNeilly, and of course, David Yow. (Watch out for the hairy tangerine.) So far they're penciled in for ATP in May and will have a "final appearance" in Chicago next November. In May, Touch & Go will also be reissuing (and remastering) the essential Head, Goat, and Liar. Get more info at ATP.

Whoa! Best reunion announcement since Big Black in 2006. I hope David can still do the scream from "Monkey Trick."

Thank god the teenage hipster contingent is woefully oblivious to the irreproachably demented Jesus Lizard. Remember when rock & roll was, well, fucking frightening?! Ain't the "clarity" of nostalgia a bitch?

i just saw David at the El Rey when Mudhoney played, he sang the last song with the opening band. WOW! He's still got it to say the least. I can't wait to see JL again!!

YES! This was one of the greatest bands ever. The Jesus Lizard is one of those bands where I get chills just THINKING about some of their songs. They had no contrived image or schtick... they just got onstage and fucking destroyed.

Too bad you chose a picture with Jim Kimball instead of Mac. Bummer. Oh, and kidacomputerok, that scream on Monkey Trick (the studio version) isn't even Yow - it's Santiago Dugango.

Dvid, Jim Kimball needs love too and a Laughing Hyenas reunion isn't going to happen.

C'mon, put up a photo with MAC!!! He kicked Jim Kimball's ass...
and was a huge part of what made TJL the force that they were.

Jim kimball is a great drummer. The JL did not suffer one bit with him laying the beats.

For the record, that's me, not Jim Kimball...I know because I was right next to Yow's ass.

Hey Mac, how about an 86 reunion?

I'll settle for the Lizard. I saw the original Lizard live with Mac a few times back in the day, and boy howdy did they fuck shit up.

Hi Mac! An 86 reunion really would be great -- or has one happened already? I saw mention of one on some blog while trying to find out whatever happened to Dean Clyne.

David Yow live was one of the scariest sights I've ever seen -- that was a show where I was glad to be on the balcony of the Metroplex. Definitely rocked, of course.
