The Nightmare Before Christmas Revisited By Various Alt And Indie Rockers

thumbnail icon: The Nightmare Before Christmas Revisited By Various Alt And Indie Rockers

Get ready goths and Evanescence fans, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary. As part of the spooky fanfare, Billboard reports that Walt Disney Records is putting out Nightmare Revisited, a collection of covers, re-recordings, and new material inspired by Burton's Jack Skellington-fronted animated musical. I haven't actually checked, but it might be the only soundtrack in history to include Marilyn Manson, RJD2, Danny Elfman, Datarock, Polyphonic Spree, and Plain White Ts. (Or any combination of the aforementioned that includes RJD2, too.) Warning: Korn's also involved. As are All American Rejects. The tracklist:

01 "Overture" - DeVotchka
02 "Opening" - Danny Elfman
03 "This Is Halloween" - Marilyn Manson
04 "Jack's Lament" - All American Rejects
05 "Doctor Finkelstein/In The Forest" - amiina
06 "What's This?" - Flyleaf
07 "Town Meeting Song" - Polyphonic Spree
08 "Jack And Sally Montage" - The Vitamin String Quartet
09 "Jack's Obsession" - Sparklehorse
10 "Kidnap The Sandy Claws" - Korn
11 "Making Christmas" - Rise Against
12 "Nabbed" - Yoshida Brothers
13 "Sally's Song" - Amy Lee
14 "Christmas Eve Montage" - RJD2
15 "Poor Jack" - Plain White Ts
16 "To The Rescue" - Datarock
17 "Finale/Reprise" - Shiny Toy Guns
18 "Closing" - Danny Elfman
19 "End Title" - The Album Leaf
20 "Oogie Boogie's Song" - Rodrigo y Gabriela

Billboard has some other details, like the CD will also include the movie's trailer as a bonus.

Nightmare Revisited is out 9/30 via Walt Disney.

Even though this album appropriately skew more towards the nu-metal side of things, this reminds me of all of those pop-punkers who get Nightmare Before Christmas tatoos and partake in NBC-related theme weddings. I can think of few things as idiotic as those two.

i'd like to say to those who think getting tattoos to represent your love of something is "idiotic", that you are gravely mistaken. i absolutly love Tim Burton and ALL his films. including the ones that arn't animated. and having a tattoo tells people what i am into and what my passions are. i have many and each one tells its own. there not there to say "hay look i'm cool". for your coment there was no need whoever you are. the album is great. the first i heard was someone humming korns version of kidnap sandy clause and i chuckled and said do you have the soundtrack. they were like what? i was chuffed when they said it was a remake. jst love it. now can you do the other films please!!! xx

Fiona Apple sings Sally's Song. It's a good cover. Very glad she didn't put her name to this.

God, I wish I could be as cool and hip as some of you guys!..I just can't seem to be able to identify myself with artists I like and then seek status for disdaining artists I don't like.

the first and the last cuts should be very good and interesting if they sound like what i'm hearing in my head :)

devotchka has enough gypsy weirdness to pull it off even though they are nothing like the rest of the lineup. and rod y gab bring class to all they do. nice bookends.

Sally's song by Amy Lee is better that all the other covers of the song. It is even better than the original !!!! It is unique because her experiment with the harp and the piano go with the song.

She is the perfect singer to do soundtracks and we have all seen this with her "Bring Me to life" and "My Immortal" from Fallen for the Daredevil Soundtrack.
We saw another "Breathe No More" for Elektra Soundtrack, and her feat with Seether on "Broken" for the Punisher soundtrack.

We could have seen another from "Together Again" and "Lacrymosa" from The Open Door. And finally she has another smash hit "Sally's song" for a legendary film. "Go Amy!!! You rock!!!"

Most of you are stupid. This cd was excellent. To combine all these newer bands with a theme as old as the nightmare before christmas was brilliant. Why dont you stop bitching so much and spend that time listening to the cd, I promise you will like it better than you thought you would.

i understand that some people do not like this kind of music but seriously many of you could be more polite...and some of you sound like people that say "hey i've found my style of music, and i don't care shit about the rest of them they can all burn in a fiery hell for all i care"
