The Police Reunion Rumors Heat Up

We admittedly got giddy as soon as we heard the unconfirmed reports that Gordon, Stewart, and Andy were (finally) gonna give us a reunion tour. Unfortunately, there's been little to support those rumors in the weeks since. Which is why we're psyched to read this report from the fair and balanced folks over at Fox News:

The signs are strong, with enough clues available so that even Colonel Mustard could figure it out. Here’s one: Yesterday, former Policemen Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland were guests, with their families, at a Malibu birthday party for Sting’s better half, Trudie Styler. Their appearance caused quite a stir.

And on Thursday night at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Sting dedicated a lute version of “Message in a Bottle” to the pair of former comrades who happened to be seated in the auditorium.

...

Insiders say that Sting’s former reluctance to rejoin his mates is gone now that he’s accomplished pretty much everything he could in his solo career, at least for the moment.

Sorta makes sense. A collection of Elizabethan lute compositions would be last on our list too. For more updates, keep it right here: your #1 source for unconfirmed Police reunion rumors.

that would be nice, and I would spend a lot of $ going to that concert.

Did anyone else do a double take when they saw the phrase "lute version of message in a bottle"?

why not just add that to "unsourced coachella headliner" rumor pile while you're at it...

Sting needs to get back with the Police just to make everyone forget that he did an album of fucking lute music. Come on, I don't care how good it sounds, it's fucking lute music. Leave it to Zamphir.

When you're doing lute versions of "Message In A Bottle" then I think a reunion is inevitable.

What could possibly be next? Max/MSP renditions of "Roxanne"?

I'm sure the setlist would look like a greatest hits album. I don't care, I'll be there regardless.

I wonder how much of an effect seeing the footage Stewart Copeland put together in Everyone Stares had on all of them remembering what was and could be?

What is with the "Colonel Mustard" reference? Doe s Fox know he wasn't a detective, he was a suspect? They seem to be implying he was a bumbling, Clouseauesque detective.

Even if that were true, could they make a more dated and pointless reference? It really has nothing to with anything, is not interesting, smart or funny. It's just distracting. Instead of reading the article, I just sat there thinking "Why is this douche making that reference? Does he think that's clever? Do they have editors?". I really lost the point of the article trying to play pop psychologist on this guy.

I think Fox makes you fail a literacy test before hiring you. Christ.

Perhaps it was meant that it doesn't take a detective to figure it out - any bystander could see it. Give up on the pointless bias against Fox news - at least they gave you a story.

I so want this fairy tale to be true.

A reunion tour would be awesome, i'd always wanted to see those guys live .. I'm quite doubtful though that it'd be as good now as it could be 20 years ago ..

Anyway, i'd be very interested in that "message in a bottle" lute version .. Anybody has any idea where to find it ?

you better believe i'm going if it comes together. i had a friend go to the synchronicity tour and i couldn't at the time, no money. so i said i'll just see them on their next tour. a few months later i realized what a mistake that had been. i'll work overtime as much as possible to save the money. i've gotta see them. after the police i can hope for the cars.
