The Quest For Blood Mountain

Last we checked in with Atlanta's evil-riffed metal men of Mastodon, they were bringing it LOST style. Now they're out to help you enter Blood Mountain with some 8-bit (4-bit?) office procrastination. Head here to play The Quest For Blood Mountain; it's good times, but that Mountain soundtrack will probably get your adrenaline pumping. Remember, it's just a game! Don't slam your fist down too hard when those grinning wolves run into you. That mouse is company property. (via Blabbermouth)

Anyone play the game and think of Dio and the shiny diamonds?

why does anyone care about mastodon? because "the guitar riffs are awesome"? do any of you actually listen to any sort of hardcore or metal? the fall of troy have better guitar work and they're not even 22. the bronx kick more ass. every time i die plays more riffs, and better riffs, per song (although the last album was a step back), the bled play more challenging riffs, dillinger plays more difficult time signatures, etc. the vocals on mastodon are even garbage. it's like hardcore for people who don't know what the fuck hardcore is. this band's legitimacy is on par with korn being called a legitimate metal band. hell, i dare any of you to listen to ride the lightning, which is nearing 20 years old, and claim that this isn't wholly derivative. indie music snobs, your move.

I call bullshit on Mastodon, too, and I've barely got any of the experience that jack has. Take that!

(Looking up all those bands now, jack...)

spencer, this list should help you out:

every time i die - hot damn!
the bronx - the bronx (I) (the one w/heart attack american, i got chills, etc.)
the fall of troy - ghostship demos (recorded before they were 20)
the dillinger escape plan - calculating infinity
metallica - ride the lightning (for old time's sake)

Jack - why compare different genres of metal? they're not a hardcore band, and they're not math metal, and they're not thrash metal. of course they don't sound "as good" as those bands in those ways. that's not what they're trying to do. apples and oranges, man.

also, please never compare ANY band to Korn ever again. no one deserves that.

PS - this just doesn't seem fair:
why does anyone care about mastodon? because "the guitar riffs are awesome"?
the bronx kick more ass.

i guess i'm just fed up with people donging out on half decent metal, regardless of subgenre. the korn analogy stands as true. believe otherwise and be deemed false.

The problem isn't that you're comparing them to hardcore or thrash etc...the problem is you think Mastodon is a metal band.

Metal? Really? They're a hard-rock band as far as I'm concerned....playing those bluesy 70s-inspired riffs. Don't get me wrong, I've been listening to them since the Lifesblood EP was new and enjoy them well enough, but I've never once considered them a metal band.

Origin, Ion Dissonance, Cryptopsy....that's metal to me.

This band blows.

You talk shit about Mastodon then list the Warped Tour roster as evidence of better bands. Nice.

I'll admit to having a soft spot for ETID, and Dillinger is certainly awesome, but The Bronx and Fall of Troy? Weak. The Bronx opened for Mastodon on a recent tour. I made sure to show up late.

your all faggots, and mastodon fucking rules
"hardcore-metal" is a joke,
music today has turned into this cookie cutter bullshit, cocky ass sweep picking, emo lyrics,
its like the 80's but christian
mastodon brings fucking power and actually interesting sounds.
