Okay kids, what have we learned here?

They're not doing it for the money but the tickets will cost what the market will bear. Where's the plastic fundage?

Phil was interested in seeing the Ray Wilson version of Genesis play live, but he had a car racing course to attend (and that's probably true, but the detail could have been omitted for the sake of brevity).

Nick Davis is working on the remasters which probably will be releases before touring begins in September.

There is no plan to write / record new material. They're doing it for fun.

With all this said, I am a big Genesis fan and simply don't believe a word of it. Neither Banks' foray into classical composition, Rutherford's faux Mechanics reunion nor Collins' "Brother Bear" score have set the world ablaze. There is a definite desire to reclaim former glories, to an extent.

HOWEVER, there seems to be a bit more sincerity in their aim than, say, The Police and Sting's assertion that, "I just woke up one morning wondering if the guys were up for it". More likely he woke up screaming, "Jesus merciful Christ, I just made a bleedin' LUTE album!!"

Hey, I wish Genesis, The Police, The Eagles and any other reformation nothing but the best. Good thoughts and vibes to all - but if they make special guest appearances with Korn, all bets are off.

Gimme that chorizo,

How about this for a topic?

"What defunct band would you like to see reunited?" However, I would limit the category to bands in which all of the members are still alive. Otherwise, I would imagine there will be too many votes for the Beatles or Nirvana.

I vote for the Smiths (like that will ever happen).

Well, as a big Pink Floyd fan, I can honestly say I do not want to see them reform. The Live 8 performance was classy and for a definite purpose and a definite good. It wasn't about recapturing anything or reminding people they weren't dead (even though it helped promote "On An Island" and "Ca Ira").

There was a dignity about the appearance that acted as a grace note, a good place to settle differences and then be done.

Although Chris Mars's thriving career as a painter means this probably won't happen anytime soon, if Paul and Tommy can find Slim's phone number, I'd love to see the 'Mats together again (I know - not the same without Bob, but they did release three albums post-Bob).

Others I'd like to see together again: the original ELO (with Roy Wood), the Verve, the Stone Roses and ('cause they managed to reign in Ryan's worst tendencies, and because Ryan and Caitlin should sing together again) Whiskeytown.

At least they charge half of what the police is charging... At least for the European dates which had already been announced in November - also via webcast.

I for one would love to see a reunion of The Blasters with both Alvin brothers.

I also wouldn't mind an Oingo Boingo reunion. Or a full-on Naked City tour.

Yep, I'm all over the map here. I better stop.

They'll get Hackett involved if Pete agrees to a second round of shows. He has said he'd be willing to consider, just not this year. It'll never happen. It's got to be hard for Peter Gabriel to get behind this. It happened 30+ years ago, and since then he's focused his energy on charitable contributions with WOMAD and Amnesty International - as well as all of his work with world music and his own impressive career. After all that, he's being asked to go act the way he did when he was in his early 20s?

Has enough time passed that it is ironic enough to cite Britney Spears as a vital musical figure and lobby for her return?

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your a$$hole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

an Abacab-era fan rant-

i was at the Toronto show last night at BMO,
it started out just right, good seats in a brand new stadium, BMO field..
the genesis stage set up looked pretty nice as well, as looked even nicer when the lightshow started up..but at the end of the night i felt burned. the concert pre-encore ended with my most hated of all genesis songs, invisible touch.. and I didnt hear almost anyof my favs.. no abacab. no trick of the tail, and no keep it dark.. and no one should sing carpet crawlers except peter imho

i dont know who chose the set list. but man, it didnt seem laid out for that knockout punch i wanted for a farewell us.canada tour..

good to see the boys again, but i missed the good stuff they didnt play..
bummer,
R
