I like how he makes a joke about pronouncing Sufjan. Clever.

[denial]I'm not a lawyer, I'm a doctor. I really fucking hate Bright Eyes. And I only saw Garden State _twice_ in theatres. So I'm good. [/denial]

Everything deserves a 'ster' to give cool cred to terminology. 'Blogger' is out, 'blogster' is in.

Please tell me you don't honestly think "yippies" is a new-ish term. Look up "yippie" in the dictionary immediately.

"Despite a dip in overall sales, indie labels now claim 27 percent of the music market—their largest share in recent memory."

Translation: I'm too lazy of a journalist to actually research the historical statistics for market share distribution, so I'll rely on the indistinct and meaningless "in recent memory" phrase.

Who gives a shit? Why must everyone be classified?

Everyone is too caught up in counterculture to pay attention to their own lives.

What about hippisters? They dress a lot like hippies, but unlike hippies, are young and beautiful and listen to neo-60's music like Devandra Banhart.

That's the point. It's NOT a counterculture, just a new wave of hyper-consumers.

I'm a librarian - what's the rest of your excuses?

Actually reading this quote: "I was just trying to say that indie music has gone soft - I mean, it cant get any softer."

I like a lot of these *soft* bands precisely because we are in a war and have a generic Alpha-male mentality as a country. The Shins, Belle & Sebastian, the Lucksmiths are all very passive aggressive in their way and maybe that's the perfect soundtrack for these times.

Also is having an i-Pod really a hipster thing? Haven't a bajillion of those things been sold?

Don't feel bad, I'm such a Yipster that I had to look up who Conor Oberst is.

Oh, I don't feel bad BB, just surprised. I guess it was bound to happen. And I can claim I saw Bright Eyes in 2000 (Boston, Middle East) and it was craptastically worthy of K-Fed.

yup.

rise of a new word i will love to use. thank you 2006. i won't forget you.

i still haven't gotten an ipod. i rock my awkward-as-fuck mp3 cd player and minidisc player. i may get one - when apple removes their firm (but hot) grip from my balls, so i may afford one.

YupPster is an electronic musician from Chicago. He's also my bandmate's brother. I think those two sentences just branded me a yupster.

I didn't want an iPod. But my Mom got it for me any way for my birthday. Yeah, that's a hell of a thing to complain about, right? The irony is that all I wanted was more vinyl.

So last night, I put the whole Talking Heads catalogue, some Streets, and all of my Flaming Lips albums into it and the three hundred or so songs that had already been in my iPod had disappeared, which sucked because I really wanted to listen to Akron/Family this morning.

Technology is confusing as fuck. I just need something that spins, even though I've really neglected my CD player for the past few weeks. Where do I put the needle?

That LA Weekly article is great, especially the part about "Pitchfork Television" as an MTV subsidiary.

Why yupsters now? Why "soft" indie music now? Why is complacency in, and agressiveness out? How did consumer culture get so damn smart?

Ah, the postmodern condition...
