[denial]I'm not a lawyer, I'm a doctor. I really fucking hate Bright Eyes. And I only saw Garden State _twice_ in theatres. So I'm good. [/denial]

Everything deserves a 'ster' to give cool cred to terminology. 'Blogger' is out, 'blogster' is in.
Score = 0
i thought the word was 'yippies'.
Score = 0
Stereogum in Newsweek? Woa.
Score = 0
Yippie-kai-yay, motherfucker.
Score = 0
Please tell me you don't honestly think "yippies" is a new-ish term. Look up "yippie" in the dictionary immediately.

"Despite a dip in overall sales, indie labels now claim 27 percent of the music market—their largest share in recent memory."
Translation: I'm too lazy of a journalist to actually research the historical statistics for market share distribution, so I'll rely on the indistinct and meaningless "in recent memory" phrase.

Screw Yupsters. Huppies is where it's at.

Shouldn't yuppies who listen to Death Cab and Bright Eyes be called Yusses instead?

New tracks, mostly by UK bands, up at http://tommyshots.blogspot.com go enjoy
Score = 0
wait, that's me. Except I hated Garden State.

I still prefer indie yuppies.

It all leads to... huckster.

I prefer Fuckster personally.
Way to go Scott... makin' it big time with MSNBC.

ugh...Garden State, what a piece of shit.
Congrats on the major exposure, Scott.

Who gives a shit? Why must everyone be classified?
Everyone is too caught up in counterculture to pay attention to their own lives.

Who gives a shit? Why must everyone be classified?
Everyone is too caught up in counterculture to pay attention to their own lives. People are defined by a lot more than what music they listen to.

Who gives a shit? Why must everyone be classified?
Everyone is too caught up in counterculture to pay attention to their own lives. People are defined by a lot more than what music they listen to. Forge an identity all your own!

No! I want to maximize my demographic integrity!

how about "hush puppies" ?
Score = 0
i like that
Score = 0
What about hippisters? They dress a lot like hippies, but unlike hippies, are young and beautiful and listen to neo-60's music like Devandra Banhart.

What the crap is up with the full page ad I had to view to see the comments?
Stereogum brought to you by MusicSeeks?
Was the wedding that expensive, Scott?

"Everyone is too caught up in counterculture to pay attention to their own lives."
That's the point. It's NOT a counterculture, just a new wave of hyper-consumers.

How about LSHISMP?

I'm a librarian - what's the rest of your excuses?
Actually reading this quote: "I was just trying to say that indie music has gone soft - I mean, it cant get any softer."
I like a lot of these *soft* bands precisely because we are in a war and have a generic Alpha-male mentality as a country. The Shins, Belle & Sebastian, the Lucksmiths are all very passive aggressive in their way and maybe that's the perfect soundtrack for these times.
Also is having an i-Pod really a hipster thing? Haven't a bajillion of those things been sold?
Score = 0
"Is having an iPod really a hipster thing". YES "Haven't a bajillion of those things been sold? YES
Don't feel bad, I'm such a Yipster that I had to look up who Conor Oberst is.

Oh, I don't feel bad BB, just surprised. I guess it was bound to happen. And I can claim I saw Bright Eyes in 2000 (Boston, Middle East) and it was craptastically worthy of K-Fed.
Score = 0
yup.
rise of a new word i will love to use. thank you 2006. i won't forget you.
i still haven't gotten an ipod. i rock my awkward-as-fuck mp3 cd player and minidisc player. i may get one - when apple removes their firm (but hot) grip from my balls, so i may afford one.

can i just say that the bloc party is the gayest most neffariously overrated piece of talentless crap of the whole year.

YupPster is an electronic musician from Chicago. He's also my bandmate's brother. I think those two sentences just branded me a yupster.

I didn't want an iPod. But my Mom got it for me any way for my birthday. Yeah, that's a hell of a thing to complain about, right? The irony is that all I wanted was more vinyl.
So last night, I put the whole Talking Heads catalogue, some Streets, and all of my Flaming Lips albums into it and the three hundred or so songs that had already been in my iPod had disappeared, which sucked because I really wanted to listen to Akron/Family this morning.
Technology is confusing as fuck. I just need something that spins, even though I've really neglected my CD player for the past few weeks. Where do I put the needle?

I thought it was Yindie.

Man. That sucks. Society is already trying to "label" me. Damnit.
Foiled yet again!
It is a damn interesting article though.
Oh, and by the way... Garden State was awesome... I don't care what you say!

That LA Weekly article is great, especially the part about "Pitchfork Television" as an MTV subsidiary.
Why yupsters now? Why "soft" indie music now? Why is complacency in, and agressiveness out? How did consumer culture get so damn smart?
Ah, the postmodern condition...

Meh. They're spelling it wrong. And my website that no one reads is probably going away soon, anyway.
