The Song Remains The Same: Today's Unsubstantiated Led Zeppelin Reunion Rumor

Dust off that Physical Graffiti tee and start saving up, 'cause if this report is to be believed, Plant, Page, and JPJ are gonna bring on a Bonham and get the Led out ... live. Word is that Zep will reunite for a concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun in London, and then march on for a world tour. Via Gigwise:

...a source said: "Page, Plant and Jones spoke and agreed to do the memorial concert. They are waiting for a definite date. And no-one can quite believe it, but during discussions about the concert they all gave the green light to a tour if it all does well and they don't all fall out.”

The full reunion tour is rumoured to be taking place next year.

You've heard it before, and people have been saying it'd happen with Jason Bonham on drums for, well, evermore. But gigwise.com never lies?

Will they have the canvas sacks with dollar signs on stage?

Jimmy Page is 63, Robert Plant is 59, and John Paul Jones is almost 260 years old. That's some old farts.

Won't believe it until it appears that one of them has actually said it's going to happen. I'm sure they've said dozens of times over the past decade that it'll never happen again.

"According to WENN..." is another way of saying bullshit. I get better news from Mad Magazine than WENN. Shame on you for even posting this crap.

This will only be sweet if they get Meg White on drums. If not Meg White, then my buddy Pete.

If it were true and wouldn't cost the sacrifice of a newborn for tickets, I would totally go.

They'll need Dave Grohl to drum

I know the common reaction is to not think this has a hint of truth to it (which I ascribe to), but I think there's a good 2+ BILLION people who'd give a toss is Zeppelin reunited. Maybe 10 more if Genesis opens.

I give a big toss but I can only wonder how they will sound if they have not played together for 27 years! Would it be worth the ticket price?

Dude - it's Led fucking Zeppelin. Think of how many people would kill to see them live, it really doesn't matter what they sound like. Though I would imagine that Page will move slowly and Plant's voice will be a bit weaker.

...so, not exactly at their peak but still LED.FUCKING.ZEPPELIN Is this even up for debate if people care?

On a related note, can anyone think of another band who, if reunited for a tour would be as big a deal?

The only reunion that would be bigger than a led zeppelin reunion is if John Lennon and George Harrison were brought back and the Beatles would reunited.

This would be HUGE

Dumbass.

Agree, if we're bringing people back, Bonzo's the obvious choice.

Also, while not wanting to diminish the Smiths or Talking Heads' respective achievements, and the size of their enduring fanbase, but you have to look beyond the hardcore fanbase to get a better measure of the impact of such a reunion.

A Led Zep reunion would be several orders of magnitude bigger, in terms of media exposure and mainstream importance.

sure the tickets will be expensive though since it is zeppelin. and then before they can play anything they will all get simultaneous heart attacks and there goes your vacation money.

how about this one:

robert plant and allison krauss are going to tour and have an album coming out together.

odds? 2:1.

I think Roger Waters and David Gilmore "burying the hatchet" and touring as Pink Floyd might qualify on my personal list for being as important as a Led Zepplin tour. I saw Page/Plant at the MGM Grand in Vegas in '95 and they still rocked the house. Granted it is 12 years down the road, but I would be willing to spend the cash based on the '95 show.

You snooty hipsters might hate this with every fiber of your ironic t-shirt, but the would-be biggest, and certainly the most worthwhile reunion in rock belongs to a little band from Vermont.

I love Led Zeppelin. But when I hear the, "dude, it's Led fucking Zeppelin" arguement, I groan. Please. Would you fuck Goldie Hawn? No? But dude, it's Goldie fucking Hawn!

Phish? You can't be serious.

I'm a huge Zeppelin fan, nearly saw them on their last tour. I think the idea of them playing just one show sucks. They are beloved worldwide and most people would not even have a chance to see said show. A tour? That's a totally different scenario.

to second what on the bus said, i saw the page/plant show (with, i believe, a bonham on the drums) at the hollywood bowl and they were perfect. furthermore, page was still awesome with the black crowes. i don't think age is really a factor here and i fully expect them to be awesome, should this story be true.

however, a reunited pink floyd would be just as awesome in my book, perhaps even awesomer because they're all still alive.

but i wouldn't go to either of them because the tickets would cost at least as much as rolling stones tickets, and i don't have that kind of money.

I saw the 1995 Tour of Page and Plant in Sacramento, California. Page still plays guitar just as great as ever, but Robert Plants voice is shot. He has smoked cigarettes for a long, long time.Unfortunately, He has nowhere the vocal range as before. It was still a great experience to see them play. I saw them in 1977 @ the Forum in L.A.when I was a teenager. I bought the 6 ticket maximum @ $8.50 per ticket.I've been to over 150 concerts and it was one of the best shows that I ever saw.Very similiar to the 1973 Madison Square Garden concert film "The Song Remains The Same" even right down to the bouquet of roses some Fox (70's slang for a HOTTIE!) from the crowd handed him. If they really do tour again, you owe it to yourself to go. It will be a rock'n roll pilgramage you will not want to miss.

who knows, man. true, plant's golden pipes have probably atrophied considerably, but i'm sure zep would still be fucking mind-blowing. hell, bob dylan sounds like he's groaning through a mechanical larynx these days, but he still puts on a show thats well worth the money...

Page and Plant was awesome live but they had a son in law for a bass player. John Paul $*%(&** Jones still rocks and thei Jasion or Dave Grohl (who constantly volunteers himself in interviews) it would be mind blowing

Stadiums! There is no other act old or young capable of doing that today. This will require a huge P.A.(perhaps the biggest in history!) The great Richard Cole is the only manager capable of handling something on this scale, now that Peter Grant is gone(even though Mo Jones may have to keep an eye on him). Zeppelin will need a goon squad just to keep Jason Bonham under control!

Hey people if any of you really know this band you know that they are proffesionals and the very best at what they do, Ive seen everything too see of all of them from jason bonham, john paul jones, firm, outrider, plant, zen, etc, etc, etc never missed anything and they will fucken kick ass like never before, the magic will happen and you will be drained for weeks trying to recover from such an electrifying performance of this magnitude, it will be done RIGHT!!!!!!!!Bet your life on it!!!!

I saw this band twice-the first time when I was 16 the second time I think about 20-Houses of the Holy was out I know that because I remember how much JPJ did that concert. I bought this cd entiteld simply Led Zeppelin DVD and it is something like the How the West Was Won. Well I live in Ontario and had to call a freind of mine who bought me the concert ticket when I was 16 just how freaking incredible this music was. It is still incredible and I am 52 years old today. Listen Man no bands from Tragically Hip to Blue Rodeo even come close to these cats and how many years have they been at it. Would I go to a reunion-hell these guys could do it unplugged and still blow your freaking brains out get real. It's like would you go see the Doors. If you have to ask....you don't deserve to go cause you just don't have a clue to begin with. If your a Rocker, you owe it to yourself to see the remainng members should they ever reunite.

I saw page and plant 2 times in 95 and I loved it, but I kept asking myself and my friends how much better it could have been if Jonesy was part of it. These guys are old and they might not have the mystery and magic of the old days but if they tour I'll pay anything just to see them all together just once.

I would mortgage my house to go. I don't care. If the beatles reunited with say, eric clapton and julian lennon I might sell my car. If Pink Floyd got together, I would max out my credit cards and not pay the cable bill, or something even more drastic if syd barrett came along too.
You only live once and so do they. The only thing I can't justify would be Nirvana. Dave Grohl would still be in some shitty bar in WA if not for Cobain, and whoever said Meg White was EVEN CAPABLE of playing with rock legends as such as Zeppelin, well, I would like to bash your head in with her drum set, thereby shutting you up and ensuring I will not have to endure her sounding like four retarded kids licking the bus windows and knocking their heads on them at every bump in the road.
