The Twilight Singers Cover Gnarls Barkley

No doubt you're now as sick of "Crazy" as Gnarls are. But I gotta share this cover. As discussed last week, Denis Leary's favorite band has taken to performing the tune on its current tour. And, no surpise, Twilight Singers knock it out of the park. Or in this case, Boston's Paradise theater, May 29. (They also did a sweet version of Springsteen's "I'm On Fire.")

The Twilight Singers - "Crazy (Boston 5-29-06)" (MP3 Link Expired)

Man, they're just the best cover band ever. I get the feeling Dulli could take on Paris Hilton's single and make it sound heartwrenching.

Meanwhile, Gnarls' getup at the MTV Movie Awards was the duo's funniest yet.

Chewbacca on drums!

Well, where the hell is the I'm On Fire mp3?! That's my favorite boss song. It's the only video I've ever paid for too on itunes.

The first three times somebody covered "Crazy" is was kinda cool. But when the 87th person covered the song, that's when it got really, really tired. Dulli is about the 115th. Pick a new song, people. Is writing original material really *that* hard lately?

actually Dulli covered it before Furtado, he played it at the first show on the Twilight Singers tour here in Minneapolis as well.

he also covered a bit of Dream On as well as Beth by Kiss.

in '03 hey did Hey Ya as well

Twilight Singers aren't the first (or second or third...) to cover it, but they sure do cover it right.

"I'm On Fire" is only like a minute long ... not worth sharing. But I'll go hunting for a full version.

as a fan of the afghan whigs who has scoured the ends of the earth for a copy of their live version of 'i could never take the place of your man' for years, this is a nice consolation.

thanks for hooking us all up.

glenn from coolfer:

writing original material obviously isnt "that hard" for greg dulli, seeing as that his band released the best album of the year so far.

have you heard it? i will seriously send it to you on aim.

wow - am i the only one who thinks this is awful?

gregg dulli can't even come close to hitting those notes. why not transpose it down a key or two.

this hurt my ears...

i dont think anyone has really considered greg dulli a good technical singer. that's not the point with him

no, richard. you are not alone.

it's not that the cover wasn't original, or didn't bring anything new to the song, because it did...i just don't like it.
