The 'Gum Drop Volume XXXVI: Hear New Elf Power, Win Limited-Edition Arcade Fire & Superchunk Poster

Speaking of veteran Elephant 6ers, last month longstanding Athens-born crew Elf Power released their ninth album In A Cave via Rykodisc. They recorded "Mutiny" during those Cave sessions, but the gem didn't end up on the final tracklist. No worries, we included it in this week's Drop. We also spoke with frontman Andrew Rieger about the horn-lined chunk of psychedelic pop's apocalyptic storyline. Read his Derrick Jensen-themed response and listen to "Mutiny" over here.

In addition to those sounds, we offered a chance to win a limited-edition, signed, and numbered Arcade Fire and Superchunk "Change Rocks" poster.

A couple days ago we posted about the Arcade Fire and Superchunk's pair of "Change Rocks" shows in Carrboro, NC. Turns out Paper Trail, LTD., a company that commissions poster artists to design posters for touring bands, had Miami-based Kristen Thiele do something for those outdoor dates. (We checked out her site and dig her work quite a bit -- check out the To Live And Shave In L.A.) This is what this one looks like:

The posters are in a limited-edition of 100 signed copies. It's the first in a series of posters documenting Obama's "Change Rocks" sponsored shows. A different artist will be commissioned by Paper Trail to create a limited edition press of 100 posters (each individually signed and numbered) for each of the upcoming shows. These were available at the NC shows, but if you couldn't make it, here's your chance to pretend you did.

UPDATE: Please note this poster was not commissioned by the bands, but by the poster company via Senator Obama's "Change Rocks" series. More info about Paper Trail's limited edition posters here.

Enter to win the poster-art contest here. There's also time to win the Epiphone DR-100 acoustic guitar, but you have to enter first.

CONTEST ENDS 05/21/08 AT 12PM EST.

This poster is not the official poster being sold by Arcade Fire. They were selling limited edition posters at the Carrboro show that featured North Carolina lighthouses (you can see a picture here http://www.flickr.com/photos/abbyladybug/2468302922/in/set-72157604857796718/. All the money from the official posters was going to the Obama campaign. I assume this other company is pocketing the money.

They were selling the poster you're offering at the show very secretly which led me to believe they were bootleggers. The two people selling the "bootleg" posters were lying to people at the show telling them the official posters were $50 when they were actually $20.

I just thought you should know that the people selling these posters are a little shady.

i boought one of these in NC, and I thought the people selling them were actually pretty personable. and they told me that the signed posters were $50 (which they were), and i thought they looked considerably better than the "official" ones, which looked like your run of the mill movie poster. i did hear them say that the quantity was more limited, and i learned later that they were (100 v. 300). cool poster, great artist, awesome show...i suspect the above poster is the "real" artist...anyways, stop hating and appreciate this piece...
