Things to Think and Do

Tonight:
Electric Six play the Bowrey Ballroom with The Crimea, Outrageous Cherry, and Peelander-Z ("japanese action comic punk"). (Via Flavorpill.)

Electric 6 & Benny Hill Mashup - "Gay Bar" (MP3 link removed) (Nicked from Big Songs for Little Attention Spans.)

Saturday:
Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind has a New York branch, which is moving into the HERE Arts Center through the end of October. They try to do 30 plays in 60 minutes and destroy a random number of them every week, replacing them with brand-new plays for the next show. They tend to be absurdly funny- sometimes the play is just ordering a pizza for the audience, or shit like that. It's great.

Neo-Futurists - "The Idea Of You" (MP3 link removed)

For everyone going to see Liz Phair at Irving Plaza:
Neo-Futurists - "Exile In Guyville" (MP3 link removed)

Monday:
New favorites Grizzly Bear are playing a Katrina fundraiser with an acoustic Sufjan Stevens and Akron Family, also at the Bowery Ballroom, for a mere $20. Go. You totally got paid since you last donated.

Grizzly Bear - "Fix It" (MP3 link removed)

I like to read stereogum because it isn't regional; it gives a broad range of music news, etc from across the nation/ world.

If I wanted to read what concerts were happening in NYC, I'd read brooklynvegan (which I do read occasionally) or gothamist. Leave the NYC-centric posts to them and keep your broad appeal.

Adrian, that's fair...mostly, I toss these out there as an excuse to put up related MP3s. I'll try to keep it less location-specific.

i love the Mp3s you are posting Jim. I guess a good middle ground would be posting them and just writing about the band instead of talking about a show (although I don't know why Adrian cares so much, if you don't like that specific post, read the one before or after it)

Jim, you're very polite--and that was a very diplomatic response, but, seriously, 'F' the haters, man--post what you want!

Adrian needs to move to NYC, to the world so's he can be location specific and cool like us.

Jim, I think it's awesome to get those mp3s up and so what if there are mentions of shows in specific locations? Deal with it.

love love love the neo-futurists!

they are originally from chicago (where i am from) and they moved here right around the same time i did. i used to see them in the early 90's do plays like "Cannibal Cheerleaders on Crack" and "Co-Ed Prison Sluts" - they are hysterical.

Too Much Light is definitely their crowning acheivement.

I also saw "Eat the Taste" a while back with Greg (the writer) about John Ashcroft. Even my Dad, a hardcore Republican, was able to laugh his ass off over their stuff.

Highly recommended...

Oh..and they also are the people who brought us Urinetown a few years back.
