This I Gotta Hear

LONDON (Reuters) - The "Crazy Frog" mobile phone ringtone -- loved and loathed in equal measure in Britain -- is to be released as a pop single.

Television adverts plugging the "tune," featuring an animated frog wearing motorcycle helmet and goggles, with a broad smile and a visible tiny penis, have made it a huge success. The tone has been downloaded a million times.

"You either love it or hate it -- there's no in between," said BBC Radio 1 DJ Wes Butters, one of a group of DJs and producers who have formed the group "Pondlife" to release the song.

This comes from a colleague of mine in London after I asked him about said ringtone:

"Yes, it makes me want to cry blood.....it's the most irritating noise known to man!"

I just pray this poorly hung frog can't swim across the Atlantic.

For those of you not familiar with this sound. It's the same noise used in the "Insanity Test" flash animation from 3 or 4 years ago. Hear for yourself:

I live in holland and this ringtone is advertised on tv all the time as being "the number 1" of holland. I can't watch tmf or mtv holland for more than 5minutes without hearing it - its ridiculous.

I was studying in London last semester, and the ad for this ringtone is on ALL the time, occasionally back to back. It will make you want to put your phone through your TV, or whatever possible projectiles are at hand.

The Crazy Frog is this year's William Hung. WE just can't get enough novelty in our lives, can we?

It really makes me worry about the British public, that frog is all over the place here! The most obnoxious noise I've heard, I just don't understand why anyone would PAY for that!

Oh dear god no.

They always play it consecutively on MTV. Like, TWO TIMES IN A ROW. Now there's this new one with a dancing chicken, and although it was a welcome change at first, it has too since begun to make me want to shoot myself.

I can see how this would drive a person crazy.

Although any ringtone (like mine: 'who let the dogs out') is annoying if kept at a high decibel level and ignored for about 15 rings, huh?????

solution: vibrate.

and it's more fun in your pocket.

:)
