Thom Yorke, Chris Brown, O.J. Comments Cut From Kanye Storytellers

thubmnail icon: Thom Yorke, Chris Brown, O.J. Comments Cut From Kanye Storytellers

You've gotten a glimpse at "Stronger," but what really went down at Kanye's VH1 concert will require some imagination. "During the taping, according to a Reuters reporter, West was aggrieved that Radiohead singer Thom Yorke had allegedly snubbed him backstage at the Grammys five days earlier. That hurt, West told the audience, because he idolizes the British band. 'So when he performed at the Grammys, I sat the fuck down,' West said." Classic Kanye, but it apparently won't make the broadcast Saturday. Also edited out: "Can't we give Chris [Brown] a break? ... I know I make mistakes in life." And "O.J. Simpson, amazing. Is he not? What he did, when he did, what he did. Was he not amazing though?" Amazing. More cutting room floor bon mots at Reuters (HT Daily Swarm).

I did not think Thom Yorke could get any cooler and then I read this.

if its a VH1 show and a whore bus or celebrity drug addicts aren't involved, nobody is going to watch it. kanye west undoubtedly knew this fact ahead of time, which gives him carte blanche to give props to juice.

"Come on ya'll, let's just forgive Chris Brown and OJ, because, yo, we all make mistakes right? And life is too short, and you win some, you lose some and nobody's perfect and all that, But, on the real, fuck Thom Yorke for allegedly showing some vague disrespect because that shit is just crossing a line.

Also, someone waxed this floor waaay too much last night. My shoes is slippin', son. Got me all laying on the floor during my 'Storytellers' and shit. "

I saw him in concert a couple of years ago. It was more of a meltdown than an actual concert. The guy should probably stay away from live shows.

The blog post-style breakdown & whine part of the show is when I decided to leave for the much better NIN show at Lolla last year.

He's really in his own reality where it wasn't just one mediocre summer hit that made him famous. He really does think he's the best out there and that radiohead (of all bands) is one of the "few" in his league?

Yeah. Okay.

He's got a lot more than "one mediocre summer hit." And that's not just in his reality — in most people's realities, he's had four big albums, with at least eight big hits (I'd say that's a conservative estimate). Plus, that's not counting all the big hits he's produced.

However, yeah, it is kinda ridic for him to consider Radiohead one of the "few in his league." And that shit about O.J. and Chris Brown is just wrong.

where did kanye even say he was in radiohead's league? he said he idolizes them, which clearly means something entirely different.

There's an indirect quote in the Reuters article the original post links to.

"'That hurt,' West told the audience, because he idolizes the British band, and considers it one of his few creative rivals."

Rappers usually don't age well.... can't wait to see that meltdown when we stop caring. I saw him live over the summer, it was fun.

kanye west is not in radioheads league musically but he is creative and catchy, especially compared to other people at that level of hiphop, no matter how lame you claim to think he his, he adds credibility to the ever shrinking and over protective (as seen here) genre of mainstream hip hoppers = fans and performers, searching for a way to add credibility / justification to waht they do......

geez kanye calm down. i almost feel your pain but not really. don't you know Thom Yorke probably was the most uncomfortable person in the entire thing? deep deep levels of depression and issues affects you both, you breakdown in VH1 storytellers, Thom Yorke keeps it in for the rest of his life. divaaaaaaaaaasssss

O.J. was amazing... at football. But being good at running behind a stellar offensive line doesn't give a person a lifetime pass.

What if it was Kanye's mom that Chris Brown hit or OJ killed. Has he "gotten past" how he must feel about the doctors performing the surgery when his mom died?

Maybe when Thom Yorke saw Kanye he mistook him for Jermaine or Tito Jackson from 1986? What with that awful mullet and all.

If Kanye could rhyme like Jay, his craziness might be tolerable. As it is, no way.

Kanye in Radiohead's league is hardly a stretch.
But it's also a dumb assertion to present because these are two completely different leagues.

As a general question, what is so offputting about him to people as of late? The ego?

I mean, snubbing a fan - regardless of the occasion and circumstance - is pretty much a dick thing to do. Especially given the situation.

The guy thinks he's God's gift to music and seriously the guys flow is corney/weak, (though he is a pretty decent producer). Example......excerpt from through the wire -

"I drink a boost for breakfast, and ensure for dizzert
Somebody ordered pancakes I just sip the sizzurp
That right there could drive a sane man bizzerk
Not to worry y'll Mr. H 2 the Izzo's back to wizzerk"

I guess I was just spoiled with MC's with skills during the golden age of hip-hop aka the early-mid 90's......RAKIM, CHUCK-D, EPMD, NWA, GANGSTARR, WU-TANG, ICE CUBE (pre-acting days), TRIBE, EPMD, DE LA, early JAY-Z, GOODIE MOB, early OUTKAST etc......

I really want to hear how Thom snubbed him, though. I mean, it's Kanye. He takes shit waaaaaay too personally.

Plus I can pretty much here him trying to tell Thom, "HAVE YOU HEARD MY NEW RECORD??? ITS JUST AS EXPERIMENTAL AND GOOD AS KID A!!!!!"

At lollapalooza, kanye stopped his songs for like 10 minutes to compare himself to James Brown and Jimi Hendrix. I am really into rap, so I have always liked Kanye for his beat-making skills (never really cared much for his raps though). After I saw him for the first time live though, I could never allow myself to like him. What a loser.
