Thurston Moore To Cover The Ramones With Jemina Pearl For Gossip Girl

thubmnail icon: Thurston Moore To Cover The Ramones With Jemina Pearl For Gossip Girl

Kevin Shields wasn't the only one doing interviews at ATP. After his Don't Look Back set, looking back on Psychic Hearts, Thurston Moore sat with a Rolling Stone film crew to offer his thoughts on the ATP Festival past and present. Predictable topic, but the video interview is interesting mostly because it's Thurston and everything Thurston says and does I find fascinating (and also because he somehow looks younger than me). But also! He nonchalantly drops an interesting bit when asked about his plans for the rest of his time at Kutsher's:

Kim's gonna show up soon, and my friend Jemina who sings in Be Your Own Pet is coming up with her, and she's gonna come up with me tomorrow to Ma and we're gonna record "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" for Gossip Girl. So you know, the fun never stops.

"Sings"? More like "sang." I know BYOP was on his Ecstatic Peace label, but still -- you've got some young friends, Thurston. I guess you can get away with that when you never age. Or when you are Sonic Youth. And, a cover of Ramones' "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" for Gossip Girl! Just in time for Serena's return to being a Mean Girl, I guess. (She has the most amazing power face.)

Watch the full interview and learn the proper pronunciation of "Jemina" at RS.com.

at least he knows the idea of recording a song for something like gossip girl is hilarious.

it'll be cool to hear jamina and thurston together, though. i'm a fan of both and i was sad to hear be your own pet broke up, so it's cool to see jamina making music again.

I saw Turbo Fruits play with The Radical Sons in Chicago at some lollapalooza after party, and I was pretty impressed. Turbo Fruits is the guitarists other band. They were way better than BYOP live.

Seriously, Thurston Moore is 50, and I think he looks closer to 17 than I do. And I'm 17. Obviously, he is drinking the elixir of life. It's the only logical conclusion.
