Tina addressed it in a Nov. 25, 2001 NY Times article. "She started as a co-anchor for Weekend Update with a cast member, Jimmy Fallon, last year, wearing her navy suit and trademark glasses. Her other trademark is a scar that runs along the left side of her face, although she won't discuss it. "It's a childhood injury that was kind of grim," she said. "And it kind of bums my parents out for me to talk about it."

From what I've heard from various sources, Tina was raped at a young age, and the rapist apparently etched that line in her face with a knife to remind her to never talk about it.
That would explain, if it's true, why she wouldn't want to talk about it. Since part of her job is taking cheap shots at celebrities, it becomes somewhat problematic when an obvious disfigurment is tied to such a tragedy, and that tragic person is trying to sell us on what a skank Paris Hilton may be.
Essentially, it's hard for a victim to point and laugh at other victims, regardless of the fact that the other victim may have brought it on themselves.

Tina mentioned once in an article that she was the victim of a street crime. She didn't mention if this was the reason for her scar or not. I for one, could care less about how she got her scar. She is a beautiful woman, talented, and funny. Rachel Dratch and Tina are the reason I was SNL after being away from it for 20 years. Bad yearbook photo! What else is new? Most normal people have bad yearbook photos. Some have good ones, but that doesn't mean anything, because most of the time they're just photogenic or have put a ton of makeup and don't actually look this good. And then some girls have pretty, bur boring photos...those are usually beautiful girls that turn out to be gorgeous women. :) Why? Cause they have little makeup in the photo and they truly look this good.

I have the real inside info on Tina's scar. My sister's sister was Tina's college room mate's third cousin. When Tina was just a little girl in elementary school she wanted to help her Mother with the household chores. She accidentally plugged the vacuum cleaner into a 220 volt outlet. The out of control machine attached itself to her face and sucked her chin off of her face. Thankfully the machine seized before completely removing her chin. A very skilled reconstructive surgeon repaired the injury. With a few touch-up procedures the injury was barely noticeable. I know that you all want to know more, but Tina will not say anything more about the incident other than, "it really sucked!"
