I've been forwarded this e-mail 6,000 times this week. (Please stop, thanks.) So ridiculous, but it's about Rob Thomas (i.e., music-related) I get to post it and read all your witty dismissals. Rob Thomas, no so 'smooth' after all? I'm assuming the glossy gossip weeklies aren't touching this one. Independent Sources, why do you hate Scientology so? Didn't you listen to that heartbreaking Leonard Cohen ballad I posted?
Tom Cruise and Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas are lovers!Oh, come now ... everything on the Internet is unsubstantiated rumor! I hope Billy Corgan takes out a newspaper ad or something so we can get to the bottom of this.No doubt that anyone with an Internet connection has read about Tom Cruise being gay. According to rumor lore, he has had a long-time boyfriend in Chicago who is an Asian pilot for American Airlines. This is an accusation that Cruise and more importantly Cruise's many attorneys vehemently deny.
There have been many stories that supposedly corroborate his sexuality but never a smoking gun. Rumor mongers attribute this to the fact that Cruise goes to great lengths to cover his tracks. We are told that everyone around him signs extensive confidentiality contracts with enormous penalties for indiscretion. (Exhibit A: the 8-page confidentiality contract Cruise's housekeeper was forced to sign).
Such stories have been around for years and Cruise has evidently attempted to counter them with a series of high-profile heteronormative relationships. First, Nicole Kidman, then Penelope Cruz, and most recently Katie Holmes. In each instance, the "relationship" is actually a contract that gives the women a boost to their careers, a lot of money, and an elegant lifestyle.
Here is where this particular rumor gets interesting. Not long ago, Marisol, the wife of Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas (who has had to contend with his own rumors of bi-sexuality) found her husband in bed with Tom Cruise causing Cruise's people to shift into high gear.
First, Mrs. Rob Thomas was bought off for an undetermined sum.
Second, Cruise and his handlers set out to immediately find Cruise a girlfriend. Second-tier actresses were targeted. A list was drawn up with Jessica Alba (#1 pick) and three other girls who fell out for various reasons. Originally targeted (#3 I think) but later rejected as "undesirable" was rumor queen Lindsay Lohan. Way down at #5 on the list was Katie Holmes, but that was the one with whom they were able to strike a deal.Once the contact was signed, photo ops were set up, leaks were made to the right places, and we've had celebrity relationship on steroids ever since.
One thing I will credit this rumor for is how it nicely explains Tom's behavior this past few months-including the couch jumping episode on Oprah. Cruise simply didn't have time for the Holmes rumors to circulate at its normal speed and he couldn't allow it to be second page news while the tabloids focused on Brad, Jennifer and Angelina. No, this relationship had to immediately become the "it" topic.
Well, that's how we hear it.

I heard this same story this weekend from someone that claims they are the assistant to Tom's agent. So I looked it up and found this website. She said she was allowed to listen in on a conversation in which this was talked about. Apparently Scientology is paying off Rob's wife and Katie. June was Gay Pride Month so why don't they just come out of the closet and be proud? There are some very astute observations on here. I'm impressed. I'm not into rumors, but I am intrigued by mob mentality. That said, there is a lot of fear of homosexuality out there and Scientology is all about helping rich people hide it for a price. You can't feel bad for Nicole or Katie or Tom for that matter. Anyone that thinks he is needs to go to one of his live shows and see/hear for themselves. You'll see if you go and you'll be amazed by his talent. I've been to many concerts in my life and never have I heard a musician that actually sounds BETTER live than on the album.
He's genuine, sincere, and a talented songwriter, singer, and musician. Just look at all the Grammy's he has won. He has written songs for musical legends such as Mick Jagger, Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana and the list goes on. He is a RARITY among musical artists these days. He has actually earned and deserves the title ARTIST. Watch any performance, television appearance, interview, etc...he IS who he IS and doesn't pretend to be something he's not. He is most refreshing among all those freaky, stupid bands with the white faces and black eyeliner or the half naked, blonde twiggy's that can't sing live.
These days in a world of music that all sounds and looks the same, Rob is an original. There is no one like him and no one even close to being like him. It seems record companies give just about anyone a record deal. Rob Thomas is one of the greatest things to happen to music and as long as he's around music will always have a savior.
His music speaks volumes to those that have followed his life and his career. We know the truth and Rob Thomas is working his way up to being the greatest musician of our generation.

Well, I don't know about Rob Thomas but this is what I know about Tom Cruise:
About 10 years ago I worked with a woman, her husband was best friends with an entertainment lawyer. This lawyer was the one who drew up the contract between Tom and Nicole. The deal was, she had to stay with him just short of 10 years (which was what happened) and she would get a 7-picure deal and emerge a star.
Funny, everyone seems to forget that Tom was married to Mimi Rogers way back in the 80s. She was the first, before Nicole. Same lawyer, same contract. Why have we forgotten about Mimi? Because after about 3 years she couldn't handle the charade anymore and bolted out. Her career went into the toilet and she was never heard from again.

Hey guys, I know for a fact that this is indeed true...I work with people who have been in the industry, and apparently it is general knowledge in LA that Tom is indeed gay. Apparently the tom and nicole marriage ended exactly 10 years after it began because that's how long the contract was for...why do u think he adopted?? tom has had a boyfriend for many years, and the whole katie thing is a scam. no she was not his first choice, but she's the only one who would sign on...nicole's contract promised her seven movie deals and a huge name in hollywood, and she got just that, hence katie's jumping onboard. oh, and his marriage to mimi rogers? he was dating mimi's BROTHER at the time (i kid you not), she just married him to cover it up. and the reason we dont know any of this is because there are confidentiality contracts signed EVERYWHERE. everyone has to sign one if they are going to work around tom, and what's more, the institution of scientology owns SO many things (eg blockbuster) so if these places DID spill the beans, they would no longer have access to tom's merchandise. FURTHERMORE, tom's publicists are so cunning that they devised this scheme wherein if ANY magazine spills the beans, then they no longer have rights to other celebrities for interviews or anything (eg they wouldnt be able to interview kate hudson because she'd refuse). don't be fooled by US weekly and Star magazine when they write stories of tomkat...they know the full truth, they just dont want to say anything because then they won't have anymore stories, and they don't want to lose privelages with other actors..furthermore, they don't want to get sued, like the last paper did who let the cat out of the bag. or should i say tomkat out of the bag...in any case, my source is solid and hollywood is just one big scam to make us all buy into it...crazy, eh..

I saw Rob in concert last week. Damn, he was amazing as always. He sounds better than his CD and that hardly happens with singers. When a songwriter, (YES, Rob is a songwriter for not only his own songs), writes Grammy winning songs for musical legends such as Carlos Santana, Mick Jagger, Willie Nelson, etc., I'm pretty sure they can be considered a talented artist and someone that stands out amongst all the crap sound-alike music that's out there these days.
Truly talented songwriters are NOT a dime a dozen. I think it's admirable and brave that Rob doesn't put on some black eyeliner, gets his face all pasty white and sings songs that were written by other people. You're gonna tell me that Carlos Santana has bad judgement in songwriters?? C'mon!
He is unique in the music world whether people like him, his music, or not, and he will be around for many years to come so the world might as well get used to it. :)
