Top Ten Records of 2005 (So Far)

Insound's launched a fun newsletter with blog finds, weird links, advice column, etc... They've even included a list y'all can argue about...

TRUST US: Insound's Top Ten Records of 2005 (So Far)
Based mostly on what I believe in my heart to be true but also based on what I've overheard on the 'L' train to Brooklyn amongst people with record bags, arm sleeve tattoos and art school degrees. I'd say it's 90% me and 10% them. Maybe 70-30. Mind you, the Williamsburg kids can be very convincing.
1. Black Mountain "Black Mountain" (Jagjaguwar)
2. Bloc Party "Silent Alarm" (Vice)
3. LCD Soundsystem "LCD Soundsystem" (Capitol/DFA)
4. The Go!Team "Thunder, Lightning, Strike" (Memphis Industries)
5. Death From Above 1979 "You're a Woman, I'm a Machine" (Vice)
6. Bright Eyes "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" (Saddle Creek)
7. Cass McCombs "PREfection" (Monitor)
8. The Decemberists "Picaresque" (Kill Rock Stars)
9. Matt Sweeney and Bonnie Prince Billy "Superwolf" (Drag City)
10. Stars "Set Yourself On Fire" (Arts & Crafts)

That list assumes that you all listen to vinyl only. DFA79 vinyl is 05 and The Go!Team vinyl will come out later this year. So they are both 2005 by any reasonable account.

Just kidding! We did cheat a bit on dates. SSShhh.

would've been nice to see m.i.a., decemberists and andrew bird. i'll put my votes in for the out hud and beanie sigel records. 13+god has a record coming out soon too that is amazing. dfa1979 and go! team should really be 2004. or go! team should be held off until it gets u.s. distro.

Um...if I'm not mistaken, the Decemberists are on the list (#8). I will agree that Andrew Bird must be added. I think we're gonna have to start an Andrew Bird campaign! Also, don't forget:

Thievery Corporation, "The Cosmic Game"
The Soundtrack of Our Lives, "Origin Vol. 1"
The Mars Volta, "Frances the Mute"
New Order, "Waiting for the Sirens' Call"

Let the arguing commence!! :-)

Bah! You Americans including stuff that came out in Canada last year (DFA1979, Stars).
Here's my Top Ten, so far, based on what I've been able to get my grubby paws on (some of it may not be, officially, out yet).
10. The Chemical Brothers, Push The Button
9. The Silver Mt Zion..., Horses in the Sky
8. Trembling Blue Stars, Seven Autumn Flowers
7. Doves, Some Cities
6. The Frames, Burn the Maps
5. Jack Johnson, In Between Dreams
4. Regina Spektor, Soviet Kitsch
3. The Decemberists, Picaresque
2. Bloc Party, Silent Alarm
1. M83, Before The Dawn Heals Us
(The gap between the top 3 and the next 7 is immense)
Albums that will surely take a run at this list as soon as I can come across them:
-The Wedding Present, Take Fountain
-the possible new Sigur Ros album
-the scheduled for Sep Built To Spill album

I'd like to umpteenth the Bird call.

But also, lists at this point are gonna be shook up a lot with the impending release of new albums from Fannypack, White Stripes, Junior Senior, the New Pornographers(!), and Spoon. (I'd include The Raveonettes but I've already heard the album and while it's marvy it's not top ten material by any means.)

The year is just starting, people...

I'm glad others are noticing the striking ommision of Andrew Bird's album. I'd put that in the place of the massivly overrated Bloc Party album (thats right. let the insults rain down, but you are not going to convince me it is anything above mediocre guitar music.) Also, how about M. Ward's Transistor Radio?

Once you get rid of the 2004 releases (DFA1979, Go!Team, Stars) here's who I'd add:

M.I.A. - Arular (as mentioned many times)
Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak
and sure, I'm with the Andrew Bird party of 'still growing'

Just leave room for Spoon's Gimme Fiction.

March had so many great releases, I can understand why the lists are starting.

The new Fischerspooner blows, btw.

2) Teenage Fanclub - Man-Made
3) Josh Rouse - Nashville
4) Brendan Benson - The Alternative To Love
5) Copeland - In Motion
6) MIA - Arular
7) Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
8) The Decemberists - Picaresque
9) LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem

1. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
2. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
3. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
4. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
5. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
6. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
7. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
8. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
9. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree
10. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree

The Go! Team is still great (and it doesn't matter if it was released last year or not), M.I.A. is the most overrated thing in the history of the entire world, and Big Willy Oldham still makes music so good that I don't even care if I know where I am or not (this is, to say, if I was being kidnapped by the C.I.A. and 'Superwolf' was playing in the van, I doubt I would care as much). Oh, and the Decemberists' new record shreds too.

5.Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch
6.My Computer - No CV

Maybe in USA don't know where the hell or how to get or where's my mind, but this one is a must-to-be-heard-over-and-over-again.
