Eighth Annual moe.down Jams Ryan Adams, Meat Puppets Into Lineup
Perennial heir-apparent to the corroding jamband throne abdicated by Phish, moe. still have their air of hospitality about 'em and, presumably, their dedicated base of mobile moe.rons (their term, not ours!), 'cause the band has just announced the date for this year's three-day Bongaroo. The moe.down will go down for three nights (8/31-9/2) at the Snow Ridge Ski area in Turin, NY.
In addition to moe.'s six sets over the weekend, those making the trek will hear from Ryan Adams, Meat Puppets, Amos Lee, The Brakes, and Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood (Aside: Did John join the lineup permanently? MSMW doesn't have the same ring to it.) Any moe. fans out there? Anyone ever actually hear them? We remember "Rebubula" -- with its harmonizing-guitar head sounding like a bpm-boosted Allman's cut -- but beyond that our memory is cashed.

I actually saw them several years ago when I in the midst of a short-lived fascination with the jamband circuit. They're a group of fantastic musicians who can't write decent songs. I still have several of their albums gathering (a prodigous amount of) dust on my shelf at home.
And no, Scofield hasn't permanently joined MMW, but they're still touring to support the collab album they put out last year.

I was at snoedown, their winter fest last weekend and it was a great time. They do wank out a bit, but all around good vibes, and the nicest guys around. This moedown lineup looks pretty cool so far. moe. on Stereogum, who woulda thought!

Before turning on to Indie music I was a huge fan of jambands. Phish, moe., you name it, I listened to it. Phish is really the only band I still listen to anymore. For a long while moe. was one of my favorites.
I will always remember when I saw them at the second Bonnaroo when they put on an incredibly entertaining show that John Popper played with them. I still listen to the MP3s of it occasionally.
JG is right...they write pretty terrible lyrics but can pull off some incredibly amazing music on the fly!

I was once a moe. fan and I've seen them a bunch of times -- and it's beyond boring to me now that I've been following this space. What many call "jamming" is the same friggin' jam every other night -- there's nothing spontaneous about saying "jam right here every time we play this tune, until you hear me play that note, which means stop jamming, and then we'll stop jamming then." Every night. Same thing. Nothing *improv* about it, really...
Any band that regularly touches the 25:00 minute mark is just too wanky for me. I appreciate their hard working attitude and all, but they need to learn the definition of concise.

I used to really be into the whole jamband thing but moe. is the only group I still regularly listen to, mostly because being from Upstate New York, they're kind of considered a local band. I enjoy their live shows even though they aren't that spontaneous at times. I still think they're better than Widespread Panic.
Ryan Adams, and the Meat Puppets at moe.down? I'll go for that.
