Nine Inch Nails Warm Up For The Tour With "1,000,000"
From what we know, Trent's upcoming North American trek is gonna be an all-out A/V assault, and possibly maybe like nothing you've ever seen: The NYT mentioned Reznor was collaborating with his go-to graphics guy Rob Sheridan and the Montreal-based company Moment Factory to construct three (giant) screens and utilize "disorienting effects" -- including moving "a video frame across a musician [to change] the sound of his guitar" -- in service of making "the stage ... an interactive instrument." Because that sentence is awesome but also gave at least four people seizures simply reading it, this video of NIN rehearsing the The Slip's "1,000,000" is a must-see tour tease. NIN's sounding pretty menacing.

I've hated everything Trent Reznor's done UNTIL The Slip. Fucking epic album, brilliant. That video is fantastic.

Lollapalooza has a fairly good track record of accommodating headliners' abilities to perform their live show - stage, lights & all. I'm hoping those parentheses don't translate into seeing a watered-down version of this, though I have my hopes that I'll be in the clear. (Ditto for Radiohead.)

Why is a fortysomething man singing those lyrics? They're barely an improvement on "Head like a hole/black as your soul/I'd rather die/than give you control." The lyrics to a tossed-off Robert Pollard song buried on an obscure limited edition Fading Captain EP are more profound than this dogshit.

Hmmm... I can't figure their meaning exactly, but these lyrics seem vaguely angst-y and sarcastic. Almost like something Trent might write. Very strange that they're being sung by a 39 year old, too.
See, kidacomputerok? Lyrics are difficult to write and even the greatest fail miserably at times. Keep talking trash about Nine Inch Nails, though, because it gives me the pep I need to get through my boring work day!

LOL. I'd say there's a vast difference between writing surrealistic/nonsensical gobbledegook like you cited (see also: Deerhoof and Cocteau Twins) and writing nothing but straightforward attempts at capturing human misery over and over again (seriously, this song sounds like it might have been on "Pretty Hate Machine." Is this how far he's come in 20 years?). When Trent started ripping off Big Black at the beginning of his career (particularly the "Broken" period) the least he could have done is borrowed Alibini's ability to find humor in the aforementioned misery. Of course, when he tries (Starfuckers, Inc.) the outcome is disastrous. Why people think Reznor is some kind of genius is beyond me.
