Coldplay Will Viva La Vida In Your Town, Probably

thubmnail icon: Coldplay Will Viva La Vida In Your Town, Probably

Although it's not any sort of epic transformation, the half-the-title-track to Viva La Vida or Death Will Come Before This Album Title Is Over, posted earlier this week, is at least a good cut and successful rut-buster. Who knows what the rest of the record holds as far as that's concerned, but while Chris Martin has little to no skill when it comes to naming things (see: album titles, children), you can be sure he is well versed in the use of multiple screens and stage lights to achieve an overdramatic aura. So if you want to see Coldplay's sparkly new Eno-isms translated for the arena -- and if you live in Japan, Europe, or North America -- 2008 is your lucky year: it is World Tour Time. If you can't make it to the free shows (which, btw, you can enter to win now), here's how to help make the lads a little richer via these confirmed commitments for the North American leg of Falsetto '08:

06/29 - Philadelphia, PA @ Wachovia Center
07/02 - Washington, DC @ Verizon Center
07/03 - Hartford, CT @ XL Center
07/05 - Detroit, MI @ The Palace of Auburn Hills
07/06 - Cleveland, OH @ Quicken Loans Arena
07/08 - St. Paul, MN @ Xcel Energy Center
07/09 - Kansas City, MO @ Sprint Center
07/10 - Oklahoma City, OK @ Ford Center
07/12 - Phoenix, AZ @ Jobbing.com Arena
07/19 - Las Vegas, NV @ MGM Grand Garden Arena
07/21 - Sacramento, CA @ ARCO Arena
07/24 - San Jose, CA @ HP Pavilion
07/27 - Pemberton, BC @ Pemberton Festival
07/29 - Edmonton, AB @ Rexall Place
07/30 - Calgary, AB @ Pengrowth Saddledome
08/01 - Winnipeg, MB @ MTS Centr
08/03 - Omaha, NE @ Qwest Center
08/04 - Chicago, IL @ United Center
10/20 - Montreal, QC @ Bell Centre
10/21 - Ottawa, ON @ Scotiabank Place
10/26 - East Rutherford, NJ @ Izod Center
10/29 - Toronto, ON @ Air Canada Centre
10/30 - Toronto, ON @ Air Canada Centre
11/03 - Boston, MA @ TD Banknorth Garden
11/11 - Atlanta, GA @ Philips Arena
11/18 - Houston, TX @ Toyota Center
11/19 - Dallas, TX @ American Airlines Center
11/21 - Denver, CO @ Pepsi Center Arena
11/22 - Salt Lake City, UT @ Energy Solutions Arena

Tickets will be priced from $50-$85, ouch. Don't see your town? Don't worry. Billboard reports that there will be 50 North American dates, so this intimate little get-to-know-Coldplay-again tour will be a beast. The world trek will extend "well into next year. As for ticket availability, Billboard says "some North American dates will go on sale May 16-17, but the majority go up June 14." Ticket info will be available at coldplay.com. Also and finally, Coldplay will perform "Violet Hill" on the Today Show on 6/27.

Just looking at all the venue names makes me disgusted at the kind of world we live in.

Oh sure, gripe about coldplay charging $50 bucks for a ticket but ignore the Tom Waits tour where every ticket is above $70...

Great fun stereogum...great fun
