Free Agent Shins Map Tour

thubmnail icon: Free Agent Shins Map Tour

Last June we reported that the Shins were ostensibly not returning to Sub Pop for their followup to Wincing The Night Away, but were instead releasing it via James Mercer's Aural Apothecary. That report was made a little more official a couple of days ago when someone over at Sub Pop told Pitchfork the band, were in fact, going their own way. Though it's still not 100% clear if they'll be entirely DIY. Whatever the case, Mercer & Co. have announced their first U.S. tour since way back in early 2008. Right, that wasn't so long ago, but still:

5/02 - Bellingham, WA @ Western Washington University
5/04 - Seattle, WA @ Showbox
5/05 - Seattle, WA @ Showbox
5/06 - Portland, OR @ Crystal Ballroom
5/07 - Portland, OR @ Crystal Ballroom
5/09 - Oakland, CA @ Fox Theater
5/10 - Los Angeles, CA @ Hollywood Palladium
5/11 - San Diego, CA @ SOMA
5/13 - Richmond, VA @ The National
5/14 - Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club
5/15 - Baltimore, MD @ Ram's Head Live
5/16 - Philadelphia, PA @ Electric Factory
5/17 - Montclair, NJ @ Wellmont Theater
5/18 - New York, NY @ Terminal Five

You can keep up to date with the Shins at their MySpace, which is where we grabbed that dashing photo of the band.

I hope they release a new album by 2010!

smart - they should release it themselves or go with an indie that does an actual profit split.

I started to get excited by this news, and then I remembered that their live show sucks.

@ whoa --- After their last album, I'm not sure they're a great band anymore. A few solid (if overproduced) songs, but nothing approaching the magic of "Know Your Onion." What does Natalie Portman have to say about it?

I wish Ben Gibbard a horrible case of erectile dysfunction given his recent "thingy" with that hot chick from Yes Man. It is just not fair. First, Ben fronts a band called DCFC (who the fuck knows what THAT means) and then he gets to play doctor with the chick with amazing bangs... Seriously, this is just not fair....

As for The Shits, they smell like crap. It seems like everyone and their grandmothers know who they are because every eats a bad serving of Mexican food once and awhile. I DO NOT WISH ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION UPON THE SHITS. I REPEAT: I DO NOT WISH ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION UPON THE SHITS.

First off... Shins are great live... and I love when a band does something different, even if it was overproduced. Wincing the Night Away was a GREAT ALBUM and the Tour that followed was surely one of their best!!!

Get a clue...

Just need The Shins to add a Denver Stop and I will feel complete.
