St. Etienne Remix Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (Stereogum Premiere)

thubmnail icon: St. Etienne Remix Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (Stereogum Premiere)

Veteran electro-infused UK dream-dance outfit St. Etienne have given Pains Of Being Pure At Heart's "Higher Than The Stars" the extended treatment via their "Higher Than The Stars (Saint Etienne visits Lord Spank Remix)." In St. Etienne's hands the shiny, gently introverted C86-nodding original struts slowly onto the dancefloor and owns the place with beds of percussion, wandering synthesizers/pianos, and the ghost of Sarah Cracknell. (If dancing's not your thing, it also appropriately feels like an exhilarating drive down a misty road "in the back of your mother's car.") The untouched version's the title track of the "Higher Than Stars" EP. The listing's changed a bit from previous mentions -- and will be available as a CD and in three different vinyl versions -- so take a look at all of those as well as Pains' tour dates while blissing out on St. Etienne's creation.

Is it wrong of me to not be interested in this band simply because of their band name? 5 words max for a band name and that's only if "of, the, or and" are in the title. Aside from the fact that the album cover from their self-titled lp looked like a Belle & Sebastian rip-off.

So amazing! So worth getting on this remix alone. I hope I can still like the original version.
