Trailer For The Ian Curtis Biopic Control

Director Anton Corbijn took a shoestring budget of 3 million quid (infusing lots of his own cash) and an actor "plucked ... from obscurity" (Sam Riley) to create Control, the much buzzed-about biopic on post-punk legend Ian Curtis. The flick was the talk of the Cannes Film Festival, picking up the top prize for Best European Film. This four minute trailer will get you psyched, too -- and relieved that it looks like they did the Joy Division icon's tragic life justice. French subtitles are a bonus.

in fond remembrance of ian curtis' passing anniversary last weekend (05/18/80) and with enthusiasm for the movie, i did a little cover version of "love will tear us apart". b&w for anton, of course. perhaps other fans might join in and post covers as well? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1K_3c2CfY0

is ian curtis in the movie the same ian curis from 24hr party people, because if it is, that would fucking rule!

I hate these film trailers that feel like they just summarised the entire movie in 3 minutes.. The best clips I've so far seen from this film aren't in this trailer - the actors playing the band perform the 'live' sequences themselves and they're very convincing. Looks like Corbijn did a decent job thankfully, I was worried this would turn into a load of Hollywood-ised cheese..

Seems pretty true to the book Touching From a Distance written by Ian's wife. I'm excited for the movie. I think Corbijn will do it justice. Should be slightly better than Zach Braff playing Elliott Smith.

OF COURSE corbijn will do it justice! this man has so much invested in joy division. remember, he left the netherlands to move to manchester to photograph joy division. all iconic shots were taken by him. he was an obsessed fan boy who happened to be a stunning photographer. he's not gonna fuck it up because it's his history as much as it is joy divisions, deborahs, factorys, or anyones. he went from the book and new orders memories, right? yeah, he's gonna throw in his own shading from the time but HE WAS THERE. i know we're safe. also, he didn't cast that douch jude law to play ian so all is well. the preview above has my excitement level higher than it's been in the 2 plus years i've been hearing about this project.

Shamlessly: we noted a bunch of songs used in some other clips, including ambient tracks from Bowie's Low. Apparently the film uses Roxy Music and Sex Pistols songs as well.

it's not the same guy who played ian in "24 hour party people". that guy looked nothing like ian at all. which isn't to say he didn't do a good job playing him, because he did.

I was an extra in Derby Hall, Bury gig-riot scene you see in the trailer. The band sounded pretty good and did a set for us after filming. One thing that pissed me off is they got Hooky's bass wrong - the film has him with an electric blue ricky when he really used a ricky copy. it's all in the detail innit??? The trailer doesn't make it look too interesting.

The film looks excellent, and that trailer has made me want to go and see it. I've never been that big a fan of Joy Division, but I appreciate they changed the focus of music here in the UK quite substantially.

WOW! I'll be shocked and saddened if this doesn't turn out to be one of my all time fave movies.

I agree that trailer was way too long, but the film looks decent enough.

And I love anything Anton Corbijn.
