U2 Doing A Five Night Residency For Letterman • Billboard reports that the band will dig in to Ed Sullivan Theatre as music guest each night for the week starting March 2nd. Which means New Yorkers should start keeping an ear out for roving flatbed-truck jam rumors starting now.

Popularity sucks! Why does anyone talk about any of those bands from the 60's or 70's either? Who cares how many classic albums anyone makes, what did they put out last year? If the Beatles were still around and playing songs they would suck, too!

In a world of truly shitty pop music, are you really ready to reserve hatred for "Beautiful Day" and "Vertigo" and "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"? Especially in the wake of truly great music in the past? BTW, if you think Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby are shit you're a returd.

Nothing lasts forever. No one can consistently make great music for 30 years. But the the only way you dipshits let someone off the hook is out alive is if they die or quit. Reserve the hatred for those who truly deserve it.

Re: all the "don't live in the past" fuckers... should there be a shelf life on music? Is it lame to like The Who? Zeppelin? Stones? Should we delete their catalog from the record and only remember Robert Plant as he was in whatever he won the grammy for? Don't be fucking idiots. i'm not sure what this has to do with my hair but you've missed my point entirely. no one is suggesting that everyone shouldn't listen to boy or october anymore. i'm just not going to rally around some mediocre effort based on their old classic albums.

there is too much good music out there to listen to new shit just because a band *used to be* a creative powerhouse.

No one is talking about 'living in the past'. They're talking about "listening to shit music". I think U2 sucks, hard (always have, really). I don't care how many "fans" they have or how many stadium seats they overcharge for. Soulja Boy probably outsells them. You want to fight that battle, now? Kanye outsells them in the stores and on tour, so he must be waaay more relevant and talented, right?

And "only band from the 80s"? Just off the top of my head I can think of REM, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, The Flaming Lips... alright I'll stop there. How embarrassing for you. Indie License revoked!

I have a blast reading what all these U2 haters have to say.

Don't you realize that U2 is the only band from the 80's that's still making amazing records?, take All That You Can't Leave Behind, for example. It's one of the best records of the decade.

And they still fill up stadiums, too. They are larger than life.

But you guys can't take it.

U2 were a lesser version of The Sound. Don't believe me? Listen to "From the Lion's Mouth" and tell me it doesn't kick the ass of any supposedly "great" album U2 released in the '80s. Bono has one of the most obnoxious personalities in all of popular music...and that's why some of us hate them.

No line On The Horizon is U2's return to form....it's as daring as the band were in the 90's when they put out AB,Zooropa,Passengers and POP and bands like Radiohead worshiped them I'm glad to see the band back after two mediocre albums where their B-sides and outakes were better than what was actually on the their albums
