Unearthed Bowie Mugshot

Leave it to the ageless David Bowie to look stunning in a mug shot. The Smoking Gun dug up a picture of Ziggy taken in March 1976 after a show in Rochester, New York. The crime? Felony possession of herbal jazz (right, pot). Via The Smoking Gun:

Bowie, 29 at the time, was nabbed along with Iggy Pop and two other codefendants at a Rochester hotel following a Saturday concert. Bowie was held in the Monroe County jail for a few hours before being released. The Rochester Police Department mug shot was taken three days after Bowie's arrest, when the performer appeared at City Court for arraignment.
Also, technically, TSG didn't dig it up: Some guy in Rochester passed it along in the hopes of selling it and making a few bucks (you can get his email address over the TSG site). Maybe Pete Wentz should buy it for his bar? Imprisoned Bowie, along with another, more colorful "Looking For Water"-style Bowie pic, after the jump.

So composed, so suave, like everything's all hunky dory. That one's pretty self-explanatory, but what to make of this thing?

Indeed, it's Bowie's Spongebob Squarepants character, Lord Royal Highness. As you might've suspected by the huge banner over his head, Highness appears in Atlantis SquarePantis, which airs on Nickelodeon 11/12. One for the young Americans... and Europeans and Asians, etc.

that's pretty cool, but there is a bar here in Rochester with an even better photo from the night of the arrest - it's a picture taken in the hotel room with Iggy, Bowie, the other defendants and the plainclothes officers involved in the arrest. i guess the cops who made the bust wanted a little more of a momento from the evening than just a police report and some mug shots.

DM - yes, Jack Lavere's on Park. the photo is high on the wall just above the last seat at their tiny little bar.

I love that the dude's email is hessexpress2@hotmail...

I can just imagine some poor schlub behind the counter at the Hess Express (think Sheetz, Diamond Shamrock, etc.) eagerly waiting for his David Bowie haul to lift him out of his gas-pumpin' lifestyle.
