Vampire Weekend, The Hold Steady, Girl Talk To Crash 2008 Capitol Hill Block Party

thubmnail icon: Vampire Weekend, The Hold Steady, Girl Talk To Crash 2008 Capitol Hill Block Party

We all need one more festival, right? Guess nobody sells records these days, so live shows are where it's at, etc. Anyhow, if you're in the Seattle area, you can just about ride SP20 into the Stranger's 11th annual Capitol Hill Block Party (this year, co-sponsored with KEXP, yo). The Block Party takes place 7/25 and 7/26, a week and change beyond SP20, but close enough for mellow NW types. And, interestingly, there aren't really overlaps in the bands that have been announced for the two events. Dude, where's the grunge?

Friday July 25
Vampire Weekend
Les Savy Fav
Girl Talk
USE
The Dodos
Jay Reatard
Akimbo
Pwrfl Power
Past Lives
Black Eyes And Neckties
Champagne Champagne

Saturday July 26
The Hold Steady
Chromeo
Kimya Dawson
Darker My Love
The Builders & The Butchers
The Hands
Velella Velella
The Physics
Man Plus
Little Party And Bad Business

We're also told there's a surprise guest on Saturday and more TBA for both days. Tickets for The Block Party go on sale Friday 4/18 at 10:00 am. Get more info here.

the difference between this and the other big fests is that this has been around for 11 years, always working with KEXP, is indie focused, lots of the best NW groups, cheap, in the middle of the city, and small - no crowds of jocks and fratboys. It's an actual independent festival.

There may be a lack of frat guys and jocks but the crowd is just as full with self-conscious indie kids. Cap. Hill is easily the worst neighborhood in Seattle--it's hipster and too proud of it.
