Guitar Hero III Released, Rock Band Gets Pornographic

How did you spend your Sunday? We already mentioned that poor Bret Michaels talks dirty on Guitar Hero IIl: Legends Of Rock. That's one thing, but who expected that rival riffer game Rock Band would get pornographic? While it might not be bona fide pixelated t&a, the New Pornographer's "Electric Version" is among the tunes you can, uh, noodle to on the forthcoming "virtual band" video game (thanks to reader Travis K. for the tip). YYYs' "Maps" is on there as well, but those of you not into that indie vibe, may want to check out Slash -- one of the "in-game characters" along with Michaels and Tom Morello -- explaining his involvement with Guitar Hero.

Every time a guitar's smashed, an angel gets its wings.

The game came out over the weekend. Has anyone played it? What's up with "Battle Mode"? And what's the deal with the final encore, Steve Ouimette's metal-edged "Devil Went Down To Georgia"? How does III stack up on the Guitar Hero fretboard? Got calluses just thinking about it.

yeah i played it. beat the game on medium yesterday. yes i am that person...

it was pretty good. I played with the GH2 guitar; so i dunno how the new one is working out. The songs were pretty good on this one though. The battle mode thing was weird. It seemed pretty hard; but i sucked at it and still beat tom morello. Go figure.

I can't wait for rock band though.

I got it Saturday night and played it a few hours that night and all day Sunday. It is so addicting that I actually do have calluses. The battle mode thing is kind of lame and really hard on expert (at least for me it is). Once you beat the characters, you unlock them and can buy them in the store. I've only been able to play Bloc Party's Helicopter once because you can only play it in co-op mode.

Actually Once you unlock "Helicopter" in co-op you can play it all you want in any mode. "Knights of Cydonia" is pretty sweet...

Now everyone that plays the MAPS song can hear how Kelly Clarkson completely stole the riff for her Since You've Been Gone song. Did YYY's ever sue her for that by the way? It's the most blatant rip off I've ever heard.

The battle modes are a little weird, but once you learn how and when to use your power ups, it gets a lot easier. This is my first time owning a GH game, so I started playing on easy. Knights of Cydonia is great because of the really fun patterns towards the end. AFI and Weezer were a lot of fun too.

Actually I dig the battle mode. My buddy and I played it for about an hour straight cuz it was so much fun. I guess if you are playing the computer its not as fun, but when someone else is in the room and you are totally destroying them its hilarious!

On a side note, GH is only lame if you stop playing real guitar and replace it with a video game. For every hour you sit and play the fake version, play the real deal for an hour too. Then you really may become a ...... yes im gonna do it ......just wait.....guitar hero!

I'm playing through on expert, but haven't quite made it through to the end-- Knights of Cydonia is kicking my ass 2/3rds of the way through-- but I really like the battle mode.

The new guitar has a breakaway neck for "easier storage", but I had to rig it to not wobble about, kind of a pain; overall, though, having wireless is nice and it has some extra heft to it.

I want to get it pretty much for the sole reason of playing KoC, and probably having it kick my ass.

I picked up the wii version and I new to the whole GH thing - just never played it before. I'm still on easy and medium, but as a causal gamer and music fan it's pretty fun. I'd like to get a second guitar tho.

the vibrating guitar for wii is a nice touch.

@ bill.se - I'm reticent to post this because I don't want be a lame spammer-type-person, but the record store I work at still has some Wii copies in stock. We're online at www.bullmoose.com if you still need one. Whee!
