Rock Band Gets Dead (Cowbell Sold Separately)

Earlier this summer we were treated to a sneak peek at Playstation 3/Xbox 360's Rock Band in action (promptly removed by the forces of good at GooTube, of course). The scene painted by the video clip was pretty rockin', though if you prefer your air-musicianship to be more on the jam tip, your #1 source for future procrastination has you covered: Wired reoports that Rock Band's downloadable song store will feature 18 Grateful Dead tunes! That's lots of virtual mixolydian riffing for you Jerry heads. So far, Harmonix has announced "Truckin'," "Uncle John's Band," "Touch Of Grey," "Sugar Magnolia," and "Casey Jones" will make the cut. No word on whether "Drums > Space" will be available for future purchase.

Even better news: Rock Band's comes packing "Don't Fear The Reaper." So kids across the country can scream "More cowbell!" and REALLY MEAN IT. Updated Rock Band tracklist after the jump.

This is the first time I've seen the track list and let me be probably not the first person to have to go change my drawers.

Pretty incredible, tho I'm a little disappointed that I have to drum to Faux Neil Pert.

I love how guitar hero is totally getting bitchslapped out of the video game industry.

Still though, not worth buying a $400+ console for it. I can wait until the games and the systems are obsolete.

I hope this game reams Guitar Hero straight between the cheeks. "Say It Ain't So" alone makes it the winner. And fucking Neil Peart, baby. (Even if it's a pretend Neil Peart.)

You will, reportedly, be able to play the cowbell for "Reaper." It's something that the vocalist will perform, though I'm not sure how.

The Other Matthew: You tap the microphone against your hand.

(As soon as I saw that you could do that when the first few bits of information came out I just *knew* that Don't Fear The Reaper would be included.)

*donk donk donk donk*

Not sure why Harmonix isn't listing this on their website but Freezepop, one of the unsigned bands featured on Guitar Hero 2 ("Less Talk More Rokk") which has sold over 30,000 singles on iTunes, have contributed a track to Rock Band!

I may be the only person on the planet who cares but I freaking LOVE Freezepop and find this to be absolutely the best news EVER!

Not sure if the commenters above know... but Rock band is made by the same folks as Guitar Hero. So it's hardly a bitchslap. Just now Harmonix totally OWNS the industry.
