30 Seconds From Zeitgeist

Is a half-minute long enough to form an opinion? Well of course not. So we can't wait to hear how much you love/hate the clip Zeitgeist cut "Tarantula"...

No word on whether Pumpkins management has decided to use Lucas R.'s winning LolZeitgeist entry as the official album art, so we'll use it as this clip's unofficial cover.

30 seconds is actually too much. it sounds pretty generic, and now i'm sad.

actually...it's not TOO zwan, but it's more zwan than SP...oh billy. what are we going to do with you?

sounds like a happiness orgy to me. zwan, anyone?

...I had a terrible feeling this whole project was going to go this route...

Well, I'll still stop by the gutter to pick the cd up and hope that the rest is much better.

You generic hipsters are too much. 30 seconds of one song and you're killing the CD. No wonder the music business is in the toilet.

Lol! I agree with bp. Poseurs.

truth be told, it sounded like it was getting better (and less Zwany) right before the fadeout...i'd listen to the next 30 seconds

I'm still lost as to how this is a Pumpkins album but the Zwan album wasn't. I would be more comfortable calling them Smashing Zwankins or something. Using the SP name again just seems kind of desperate.

i thought the zwan album was fan fucking tastic and pissed all over the pumpkins so there!

I don't know, to me it just sounded like a pretty good catchy chorus. That song seems like it could be something if the rest of the song is a little less zwan-y.

I heard the full song - and it is NOT ZWAN at all. It is an Ass Kicker!

Meh.. it's pretty typical. Typically boring. The Smashing Pumpkins only worthwhile record was MCIS

i think siamese dream beats mcis any day. this... sounds so poppy and i thought "simple plan" when i heard it, but with more distorted guitar sounds. it seems that corgan's voice has also gotten worse. like alec ounsworth with a breathing problem.

"The Smashing Pumpkins only worthwhile record was MCIS"

You must be kidding. Must be kidding. There's no way to judge what this "incarnation of the smashing pumpkins" will be from thirty seconds of one song. granted, I agree with those who say Corgan may be reaching a little at this point, trying to hold on to something that's gone, but I'll let him. He's earned that. Also: Zwan did NOT suck. Why can't people like happy music?

always thought pumpkins did 'pretty and minimal' far better than 'heavy and overproduced' with a number of exceptions, shame Billy doesn't seem to think so… feels like he's trying to edge in emo turf which is a bad call for a forty year old man or whatever he is

Yeah, bp! Everything bad is because of generic hipsters! People aren't saying they don't like it because, you know, it's not very promising! Opinions?!? What are those?!?! Der Der Der Arcade Fire!

you're an idiot. the only thing worse than a hipster is an anti-hipster. it's just as fake. and i fail to see why the failing music industry is the fault of hipsters.

i can't bring myself to tell off Ms. Featherbottom, since i always enjoy a good arrested development reference.

and at least Dan Deacon isn't boring.

did you expect it to be good? what goos had billy done since the pumpkins broke up. its not even the pumpkins anymore. just jimmy chaberlain. so what?

I agree with Flash - this ain't Zwanish. Zwan was good but not great. This song, especially the nice, Metallic portion sounds like a boogied up, sped up version of the great 1979 b-side "Ugly." Any die-hard Pumpkins fan knows what I'm talking about.

Great clip. I'm dying for more!

give me a break
everyone was shitting on the pumpkins during adore
and during machina
so why would the same people not shit on them for this?
bottom line: haters aren't taking down the music industry (admittedly, that's a rediculous line of logic, whoever put that one out there), but really, haters just make the world suck. seriously: go wax with the douchebags at soundfix or something. they might entertain your bullshit before telling the next guy that what YOU listen to blows.

Im not going to make any judgement calls on the new record. But those 30 seconds were pretty bad generic sounding rock. And they named the song Tarantula. So you think there'd at least be a touch of the ol' pumpkin angst. No such luck.

SP was my fav band. If Billy had die in a car crash in 1998, he would have been a rock hero today, like Cobain and the others. Musicians need to die to become legends.

since there's no official word on non-Chamberlain members of the new Pumpkins lineup, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that Corgan recruited a couple lads from My Chemical Romance.

Because, you know, all the critics here are talented enough to put together an arrangement like Billy Corgan on ANY of his cds. Some--yes. The majority? No.

Besides, think of it this way--if you had heard a 30 second clip of tonight tonight i doubt you'd have jumped on the pumpkins bandwagon more than a decade ago. I think the real problem here is that we are all so used to being pumped full of musical 'candy' that no one has the patience to actually WAIT. Instead, we'll judge the album by a poor-quality 30 second clip... We, the same critics who elected Bush to a second term... yeah...

Be not too hasty. Billy Corgan has a beautiful mind---try opening yours to the world and you'll find it a much more pleasant place to be. As for Billy's voice going bad, saying he should have died, I tell you I feel very sorry for you. A bit shallow in my opinion. No, very shallow. Very egocentric. Also, I quite liked the previous comment, and for anyone claiming they did not/could not vote for Bush, you are missing the point.

You guys take this whole music
thing too seriously...
if you just stopped using your overactive
judgemental minds for one second, you might
actually be able to glimpse a second of happyness
in your miserable lives...

It's music, get over it.

I LOVE the clip.

:)

Can we all stop discussing what we think of a thirty second clip and deal with the real problem, here? Putting your shitty, low-quality slide shows on Youtube with some song is lame, annoying, and misleading. Every time I come across a slide show I wonder who not only has as much time to waste on the internet as I do, but who choses to waste that time such a poor fashion.
I think that's why D'arcy's dead, or raising horses somewhere, really. Slide shows on Youtube, and that's probably what the song is about.

As I read through these comments, I cannot help but notice the idiocy that swirls through the air of “hipster” profligates such as Liam. He seems to be on a kick that suggests that being a “hipster” requires the sensitivity and understanding desired by those who choose to participate in “emo” culture (and I know you are probably writhing in discomfort at the thought of being compared to “emo” culture).

Well, to that Liam, I say that just because we like the Smashing Pumpkins doesn’t mean we’re shitting on “hipster” culture; nor, does it mean that because you don’t like the Smashing Pumpkins that you have some sort of rights to “hipster” bands. Music is for everyone. And you need to learn that just because we don’t like certain music does not mean we’re downing your culture. That’s like African-Americans saying that because they are the dominant force in hip hop music, and you don’t like hip hop, that suddenly you don’t like African-Americans. So as usual, your arguments don’t hold any water. The sad thing is that you choose to attack people, rather than engaging in any sort of intelligent discussion.

So go out and preach the gospel of “Dan Dacon” (yes, I haven’t forgotten about misspelling his name yet), but just because you do, doesn’t mean we have to listen. And in the future keep your stupidity to yourself if you can’t back it up!

[As for those wondering about the misspelling of “Dan Dacon’s” name, read my letter to Liam in the comments of the May 16, “Zeitgeist Cover" post. It will all become clear how much of a idiot Liam really is.]
