Annuals Visit Conan With "Confessor"

thumbnail icon: Annuals Visit Conan With "Confessor"

The sextet that is North Carolina's Annuals swelled to include a four piece string section last night at 30 Rock, performing So Much Fun's lead (and best) single, "Confessor." I wouldn't have known this before CMJ but the violinist on the far left is Daniel Hart of the Physics Of Meaning, also from NC, who I caught and enjoyed at Pianos on Thursday. Watch the ten-piece in action at Hulu, and take it to the end for Conan's cute birthday wish to Anna. He probably enjoys her hair.

Their new album is amazing and this is by far the worst track. Listen to "Springtime", "Hardwood Floor", "The Tape", and "Wake" to hear some of the best tracks Annuals has put out to date.

i wouldn't call it "amazing" (seriously kids, give that word a rest), but the new album IS pretty good with the exception of this song and "hot night hounds"... why they chose to start the album with the two worst songs AND release one of them as a single is baffling to me.

Is there something about Conan's system? It just doesn't sound right, like the trebles turned way down or something. Maybe its just me.

I've noticed the same thing, not as much as of late. A few months ago, around the time VHS or Beta was on, performances were definitely at their worst.

And that bass player was very awkwardly mobile there, wasn't he.

Wonder if Conan was pissed about not being the best looking ginger on tv that hour?

Terrible! Watched it last night when it was on, what the hell is wrong with the lead singer? Doesn't anyone have the balls to tell him that his singing style is awful/extremely gay???

that bass player is annoying to watch. it's like he's ripping off rage's bass player style, if that's possible.

That was a lot of different awkward tendencies on one stage at once.

good thing they brought that string section up from NC, you can kinda hear them for about 5 seconds in the middle there..

This is probably my favorite song on the new one. Conans sound is terrible, you can barley hear the strings and one of the guitars.

Marla Hansen in the strings section?

Whoa. I saw this because I was watching the episode, but wanted to comment. That was seriously, seriously uninteresting and boring music. This band is newsworthy? really?

I love this band. This is one of the best songs on the album. Wake & Hot Night Hounds as well. Beautiful album.

not entirely sure where any of you guys are coming from. I saw these guys tonight and they played much better than the headlining band. The sound in Conan is a little off. I wouldn't judge this band solely on this video.

I've enjoyed the new album and was looking forward to hearing this. But the sound was awful; the lead singer sounded (and looked) like a parody of himself.
