Arcade Fire & Superchunk Rock For Obama In North Carolina

thumbnail icon: Arcade Fire & Superchunk Rock For Obama In North Carolina

We already knew Win was all about Obama, but now Merge house band Superchunk's also thrown their Barack support into the ring (sorry Britt, maybe Mac will run for office next time). The two groups are in the midst of performing a pair of afternoon all-ages shows in NC, hoping to inspire folks to vote for their candidate. One took place yesterday at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Pavilion Parking Lot and there's another today at the Carrboro Town Commons. (If you're in NC, hurry up: Gates open at 1PM and the show starts at 2PM. Tickets are free, but you need 'em to get in -- last-minute info here.) Can't make it and missed yesterday? No worries, the message translates OK via video.

"Keep the Car Running"

"Wake Up"

"Heroes" (Bowie)

"Power Out"

Then some Superchunk.

"Untied"

"Driveway To Driveway"

We're hoping for "Slack Motherfucker," of course. Also, there's this snippet of "Rebellion (Lies)," but nothing substantial. Notice that if you press pause at the beginning of a couple of the videos, you'll get the AF setlist.

Why do bands that I love feel the need to give me reasons to hate them?

Well everyone is excited for the coming Messiah and the halo over his head.

The "reasons to hate them" being that they are playing a show to help raise awareness and money for a political candidate that they admire?

They make music that I like, so they must be correct on matters of national policy (well, international policy for AF seeing as how they're Canucks).

Umm, no thanks.

Canucks, huh? Win and Will were BORN IN TEXAS.

I hope Obama wins. Hillary is just a republican in democrats clothing.

I was at the show today! It was incredible! Superchunk did not play slack motherfucker, because both bands were trying not to swear, as there were many children present. Great show!

Alright, I have to accept that my favourite bands have opinions seperate from my own.

I'd just rather see Arcade Fire supporting a candidate that isn't a shady as Richard Nixon, or even Bill Clinton for that matter.

i'm just thankful they're supporting the candidate who isn't a pathological liar.

A pol who's not a liar? No such thing, dude. Let's not be naive as a box of newborn kittens...

But a 'Chunk sighting?? Glad to see that one of my alltime fave bands is still playing SOMEWHERE. I still think they've got one more good release in them.

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
