Arctic Monkeys Bring "Cornerstone" To Craig Ferguson

thumbnail icon: Arctic Monkeys Bring "Cornerstone" To Craig Ferguson

When Arctic Monkeys hit Fallon they did so with the swaggering "Crying Lightning." Things got a bit more balladic for Craig Ferguson. When we weighed in Humbug, we mentioned some of Alex Turner's best lines appear on "Cornerstone":

[We get] "I thought I saw you in the battleship / but it was only a lookalike... / ... She was close, close enough to be your ghost / But my chances turned to toast when I asked her if I could call her your name." By the song's end, because this is the world of Humbug, he's being told "yes, you can call my anything you want" by his ex's (or whomever's) sister

Turner looked downcast and tender last night -- sorta like a little boy lost -- but that cheeky bravado remains as big as his hair.

"Cornerstone" is Humbug's second single. The album is out now.

What? Where in the world are you getting THAT comparison?

I thought this was a really good performance. Cornerstone is one of the strongest songs off the album, and it's definitely the best candidate for a single (when one addresses what can make singles successful).

Vocals were too low i think. But Cornerstone is definitely my favorite song off of Humbug.
Also, is Matt sporting a Stache now? Or was that YT's low quality. I thought the facial hair was gone when Jamie shaved that beard that made him look well into his 30's.

Please don't compare the Arctic Monkeys to Kings of Sell-Out. Listen to all of Humbug, then compare it to Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not and Favorite Worst Nightmare. They have had a balladish slow song on each CD. Cornerstone is that song from Humbug.

That was apples, let's go to oranges.

First listen to Youth and Young Manhood, and then listen to Aha Shake Heartbreak. Pretty good CD's in my opinion. These boys can play some rock and roll. Next, Because of the Times which isn't bad but decent. Finally...Oh nooooooooooo! What's this!?! The Kings of Leon actually released Only by the Night. It wasn't a nightmare, it actually happened.

I am not a hipster. I have nothing against a band expanding their sound/changing it. Bands have to make money, blah blah blah, I understand. But I feel like Kings of Leon sold their souls.

It's a good thing Alex Turner beat everyone to the proverbial punch years ago, and in the first 10 seconds of fame no less!

every time i see alex turner, i trip out on that he has the voice and lyrics of a 40 yr old, but he looks like a 12 yr old. and a very handsome one at that. beautiful performance.

I'd take him a lot more seriously as a "brilliant lyricist" if he actually had social insights rather
than lame put-downs, much less as a rival for Elvis Costello..
Don't believe the hype...
