Beck Does An Acoustic "Chem Trails"

thumbnail icon: Beck Does An Acoustic "Chem Trails"

The between-album-cycle content party over at beck.com is still well underway for those who can't get enough Hansen. We've linked some of the more notable additions in this post, and today we're spotlighting the next installment in his series of Modern Guilt acoustic covers with this downtempo take on "Chem Trails," the slower speed and violin giving the song about people trying not to drown an even more haunted vibe than before.

Also in respect to the recent passing of choreographer Merce Cunningham, Beck post this note:

In tribute to Merce Cunningham's passing we are putting up a few links of his work, including a collaboration s with John Cage. When I moved to NYC at 18 I ended up staying on the floor of a friend of a friend's, in an apartment across the hall from the Merce Cunningham Studios. I remember waking to the sound of the morning rehearsals and heard them working into the night. The atmosphere around the studio informed my impressions and experience of being in NY at that time, starting to write songs and performing for the first time.

For those not acquainted with Merce's work, this NPR piece is a good place to start.

Modern Guilt is actually a really great album. For whatever reason i didn't like it on the first listen.

Definitely one of the best from 2008. No clue how anyone could hate on it, but I feel like a lot of people did.
