Ben Folds Punks NYC

A prank five years in the making. With Ben's help, Improv Everywhere pulls a Ben Folds Fake at Hammerstein, and a 10Hz Frequency gag at Beacon. Just read the story, before you watch the video...

Any of you Folds fans see this in person? Were you fooled?

I wasn't at the show but I am somewhat glad I wasn't just to avoid those few terrifying seconds where I would have thought a musician that I had revered for so long was about to have an Ashlee Simpson-like downfall.

Folds has balls to play with his audience like that, and that makes him that much more awesome.

I was there and I love quirky Mr. Folds, but I thought this wasn't up to his usual par. I knew he wasn't actually going to make us all shit our pants, but it was a good try. To his credit, though, that was the best "Bitches Ain't Shit" performance of his I have ever seen.

I was there, and when we first heard the skip (1:22), we all looked at each other, wondering if something was up with the matrix.

Then, when the CD skipped big-time, we all thought it was a joke that Ben was playing.

When they restarted, and stopped completely -- we were confused. We couldn't tell from the back that it wasn't Ben, but when he came out it all became clear.

I didn't know it was IE, though -- well done for them, even if we didn't fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

I was at the show and at first was scared that their were some sound problems or as previously stated Ben had an Ashlee Simpson moment. But then once I saw the security come out and Ben and the band all walk out I realized what had happend.

It was a great prank, to an amazing show. Ben is the fucking man!!

I saw Ben Folds in the airport in Nashville the Saturday before Halloween. I wish there was more to that story but there isn't. I just wanted to brag.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
