Big Black Live At Touch & Go's 25th Anniversary

On all our posts about the T&G blowout over the weekend, you guys -- not surprisingly -- were most curious about legendary punkers Big Black. This is what some of you said:

Fucking Big Black! Oh how I wish I could have been there for that. All you young'uns better recognize.

Just to let you know, my friend was there, and he said that Big Black played for only 15 minutes and it was pure shit ... they didn't even look like they were really interested in playing at all. So you really didn't miss much really ...

Big Black setlist: Cables / Dead Billy / Pigeon Kill / Racer-X. There were some sound problems early on, which didn't get fixed until they were half done.

On that note, what happened to awesome bands like Big Black and Scratch Acid? Every fucking half-assed band right now just rips off the same two indie-pop records from less than two years ago.

Big Black didn't really get a chance to rehearse for the show. They decided to do a few songs because they love Touch and Go. To those who would complain about one thing or another... it's fucking Big Black, it doesn't matter if they played well or poorly, they played, and that's history right there.

The Big Black set was the higlight of the night for me. It finally gave all the people who bought earplugs a chance to put its quality to the test. Just because they weren't "into it" (which I have to disagree with) doesn't mean they didn't play amazingly.

Thanks to the magic of YouTube, we say ... show some respect! They're totally into it. "When history talks about rock music it has a tendency to skip from the Sex Pistols to Nirvana. Something started in the 1980's and you're seeing the evidence of it all around you," Albini said onstage before calling Touch & Go "the most important thing to happen in music in my lifetime" and launching into "Racer X":

More of BB's performance at youtube.com/erock56k.

We're told Man or Astro-Man killed too. Watch other performances from the Hideout Black Party here.

Does anyone know who that is playing bass? From the looks of it it's not Dave Rilley (sp?) but it's a little hard to tell from the video.

Big Black did a mini tour in Texas and tore it up in Dallas. They played for nearly two hours. Fantastic.

The bassist is Jeff Pezzati, Naked Raygun frontman. He played on the Bulldozer and Racer-X EPs before Dave Riley joined. Riley had a stroke in 1993.

FWIW, I'm only responsible for the "setlist" comment in the previous thread.

Albini amended his remarks on Touch and Go on the Electric Audio forum:

Quote

Touch and Go: Home to about a hundred of the best bands ever. And !!!.
