Björk "Declare Independence" Video Preview

After letting a fan conjure the atmosphere for mechanistic, hyper-percussive "Innocence," Björk enlisted old standby Michel Gondry to transform punky, flag-planting Volta standout "Declare Independence" into video form way out there in Long Island City. The French director, who's now done seven of B's videos, concocted a futuristic backdrop that looks superbly complex in a Road Warrior (or Mousetrap) kind of way: Björk, stylish megaphone in tow, bounces amidst an army of dancers and spray paint-y colors while Mark Bell gets a neck cramp from his Spiderman bass-playing position (btw, nice bass, dude). We don't see the final product here, but we do get to listen to Gondry explain his process and watch a crew of happy folk tie knots and smile quite a bit. Who knew making a video was this much fun?

So far so cool ... but too bad Natalie Portman and Conan apparently don't make cameos.

The production on this song is the only thing that makes this album worthwhile.

Fuck it, Volta's still in my cd player. What a great album.

It's nice seeing Bjork and Gondry together again.

I'll repeat the words I said when I turned to my friend after hearing her at Virgin Fest - this was played as the final send off song...

"This song...it makes me loose my shit. I just lost my shit."
