Bloc Party Take "One Month Off" To Letterman

thumbnail icon: Bloc Party Take "One Month Off" To Letterman

While we in the trenches are talking about their No Age remix, Bloc Party are above ground invading late night TV with straight cuts off Intimacy. Last night at the Ed Sullivan Theatre it was "One Month Off" (i.e. the most they've sounded like Silent Alarm since Silent Alarm)(i.e. "Banquet"). Dave goofs cutely on the album art. Someone should send him My Bloody Valentine's Glider EP.

Intimacy is out. More on Intimacy Remixed here and here.

Animal Collective > Bloc Party

Saw them in Philly on saturday and they were awesome again. They always do 2 encores and really have fun playing and have great chemistry with the crowd every time. Bloc Party is fun and catchy and I can relate to most of their lyrics. Animal Collective is completely different from Bloc Party. Compare Animal Collective to a band like Broken Social Scene. I'm sorry if Bloc Party isn't "indie" enough for you. I listened to The Decemberists' "The Hazards Of Love", Jimmy Eat World's "Clarity", and Bob Dylan's "New Morning" today. Somehow I don't think you'd approve of that mix. Of course, I'm sure you think Fleet Foxes are too "mainstream" for you.

Okay Bud, you really need to stop doing this. Animal Collective are great, but you can't compare them with everything. Good performance, they are still better than many of their British comparatives. I quite enjoyed Intimacy. Not as much as Animal Collective's new album, Merriweather Post GODDAMMIT!

This song would be good live if he omitted the stupid pitch change effect part in the middle

While that vocal tech tom foolery certainly sounded odd, I actually think it heightened the performance - something a bit different than what you hear night after night in these TV performances so good on Bloc Party for what amounts to an entertaining 4 and a half minutes.

Letterman got married to Regina!!!

Bloc Party was alright I guess. The squeaky effect in the middle is "funny".

I thought it was a great performance. Maybe the synth section in the middle got fucked up? It wasn't that much of a distraction from the rest of the show. Good stuff.

Saw them open with this in DC the night before, and it was soooo much better. Completely different band. But to be fair, they had a 5:30 am load-in in NY and didn't leave DC till 3 am. So i'm guessing they were still massively hungover when this was taped. :-))

Horrible choice for a single. I thought Halo was an obvious single when I first heard the album. This song here might be the worst on the album.

I think it's possible that Halo and Mercury are the two worst songs on the album.
I really enjoy Flux.

My opinions only: This song is boring and sounds like every other Bloc Party track. Simple rhythms, incredibly similar vocal melodies and the pitch change in the middle was out of place and awkward. Oh well, I really liked Silent Alarm

I can't imagine watching a full show of stuff like this. Sounds like a thousand other bands you could see any night of the week in NYC. Their musicianship might be a bit better, but who cares! Generic.

blah blah blah get over it. silent alarm was 4 years ago. this new track is a solid offering from a solid album. far from generic - it must be stressful to constantly be pretentious.

i disagree. i think it's among the worst tracks from a more or less un-listenable album. just my opinion. don't get your panties in a bunch.

"un-listenable"? what do you mean? the music is so abstract that your mind cannot comprehend it?
"i can't even believe these sounds i'm hearing!!!! i'm at the point where i cannot listen to them with my ears!!! these sounds are "un-listenable""
also, i do not wear panties, dick.

Just saw them in Chicago. Unfortunately, they greatly disappointed. My fellow music reviewer thought so too.
If you're interested, here is a review, along with some video:
