Broken Social Scene Give Letterman Something For All Of Us
A-grade chocolatiers Broken Social Scene brought a slice of their latest Presents... project -- Brendan Canning's Something For All Of Us -- to David last night. It's a very BSSy track, this "Churches Under The Stairs", with a very BSSy band ... because it's basically BSS. Kevin Drew and Brendan take turns on the vocals, and as we saw at NYU earlier this year and certified in this performance, Land Of Talk's Liz Powell is the new female face of the Canadian collective.
Well done gang. When Dave asks them if they know where he got that tie, he means from Jennifer Aniston's GQ photo (for real). There's your throwaway fact of the day, here's another track from Brendan's album:

Broken Social Scene Presents... Something For All Of Us is out now via Arts & Crafts.

Is Liz a permanent member? The newest Land of Talk album didn't resonate quite like the last...

"Some Lakes" is different from the EP, but it really grows on you. it's a very well written well recorded album in my opinion.
land of talk = fucking awesome love love love (and more love)

Since when has there ever been a "permanent" female member in Broken Social Scene?
All I know is, Broken Social Scene destroyed Nashville with amazing awesomeness.
Awesomeness, that's right. I said it.

"It's a very BSSy track"
That's one of the problems with this "Broken Social Scene presents..." series. Especially in the case of Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, I mean they ARE BSS. Why the heck do they need to release an album under their names that sound exactly like BSS stuff.
When it comes to outside of BSS stuff I'm down with Apostle of Hustle and Jason Collet, he released a very good album this year that no one paid attention to, by the way.

I absolutely agree with you. Jason Collett has repeatedly put out fantastic music. He definitely hasn't recieved as much credit as he deserves.

hit the wall is a fucking great song

outstanding performance

Great performance, and Whiteman, Kevin, Charles, Justin, and Brendan are pretty much the constant members of BSS, so if it contains them, it is BSS to me, none of that presents... stuff.

Raising The Fawn is, by far & wide, the best BSS off-shoot.

I didn't find anything amazing about this song or performance.

Right on jnuh.
Though I also agree with the above comments on Collet being horribly underrated, WAY more people should really be going back and discovering those Fawn records.
It appears though, that they are no more, unfortunately. They quietly played a "final" show at Toronto's Rivoli a while back.

anyone know what kind of guitar Brendan plays?
