Critics Corner: Chapter 27

Jared Leto as Mark David Chapman! Reviews are coming in from Sundance. Hoo. Ray.

Rotten Tomatoes writes "Leto did a great job of gaining those extra pounds."

Slash Film says, "Leto is almost entirely unrecognizable!"

Sean Lennon raves, "Tacky!"

Hope your gout's better Jared.

Wow, she's twitchy. Either there was a bee over her shoulder or she was flying on angel dust.

Oh, and I prefer Fat Leto to 30 Seconds to Mars. Any. Day.

Jared Leto is beginning to approach Mark David Chapman on the creep-o-meter.

By not casting Rainn Wilson as MDC, they've really Shruted it...

I think there is a good movie to be made about Mark David Chapman and this is not it. As I understand it, the film only tackles the few days before he shoots Lennon, and doesn't even try to explain what may have lead him to do this or why he's such a nutjob.

Lindsay's all "I wouldn't - he's - Sean, he's no - he's my friend."
Says Lindsay's publicist: Lindsay was perturbed that day by the subject matter. There were no illicit substances involved. At all.

I'm with Sean! What kind of friend makes a shitty movie with fathead Leto about your dad's death? I would go apeshit on that whole production!

The movie was awful. I can't believe I waited in line at Sundance for it.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...
