Dan Rossen Covers JoJo For The New Yorker

thumbnail icon: Dan Rossen Covers JoJo For The New Yorker

Well, it was actually for Ed Droste's birthday, but he performed it as part of the New Yorker's "Love Is Strange" Speakeasy event this past Valentine's Day at Galapagos in Dumbo. You remember, it was the song we posted when Grizzly Bear/Department Of Eagles wanted to make sure you knew they still loved each other. Droste introduces Rossen's take on Jojo's "Too Little, Too Late" by discussing his love of teenpop (though he's "not into the Jonas Brothers yet") and that he bugged Dan until he finally covered this here tale of "teenage heartbreak." During the performance, the camera cuts to a contented Droste in the audience and Rossen can't help himself from laughing now and again, but somehow the song manages to occasionally transcend its Disney beginnings.

Bring this one with you on your next date:

Dan Rossen - "Too Little Too Late" (MP3)

Wonder if he could add anything to this sorry trend.

Those chords are so irregular it's ridiculous

I don't know about the chords being "irregular." He just uses some really weird and interesting substitutions.

Forget where it came from, and ignore the lyrics and you have a really good song. Dan has huge talent in creating music that floats around like an eerie cloud of emotions.

And Dan already did a cover of Womanizer: http://www.thehoodinternet.com/2008/11/britney-spears-vs-department-of-eagles.html Remember? well. okay it's a mash-up by Hood Internet. But can't we just pretend they are doing a duet?

That was gangsta. Dan should play that at the next Teen Choice Awards and blow some minds.

i read somewhere that he is a trained jazz guitarist, and he used to be a huge jazz guy but once he got to NYU he started writing rock/pop songs. the way he manages to use jazz voicings is incredible\\

I'll admit I wasn't jumping on the Grizzly Bear train easily but I recently gave Veckatimest a few listens and am truly stunned. It's something special, really special, at least it is for me. Consider me converted
