Dan Auerbach Brings "My Last Mistake" To Conan

thumbnail icon: Dan Auerbach Brings "My Last Mistake" To Conan

The Black Key man returned to the Late Night studio last week. He was down a Patrick Carney, up a bunch of guys who are not Patrick Carney. "My Last Mistake," from Auerbach's solo LP Keep It Hid, sees Dan how he is in real life, outside the Black Keys' raw and minimalist garage blues frame: sprightly, hopping, smiling, rocking. Single life suits him. Watch it at Hulu. More Keep It Hid listens here and here.

Great performance. Have had a chance to listen to the first 1/2 of his album, I love it. Can't wait til he plays L.A. in March! And Black Keys at Coachella!

Last night? Or, did you mean last week? I thought it was a good performance, but it's amazing how much sound can come out of just two guys when it's just him and Patrick from the Black Keys playing. I don't know if adding a bunch of guys makes a difference good or bad, but I liked it.

I definitely love his new stuff, it's just strange seeing him with all those people and not really rocking out as much as usual, but still awesome.
Also, it's just not right that women were screaming for the Jonas Brothers when Dan Auerbach was there. I hope the Jonas-es learned something from him.

The "bunch of guys who are not Partick Carney" are Hacienda, from San Antonio. They've got a Sir Douglas Quintet sorta thing going. Auerbach produced their new record and made them his backing band.

I liked it but nothing more. Maybe it's the song but I really didn't think it was that great compared to Dan's other stuff.
