David Vandervelde Covers Okkervil River
Chapter 2 of The Stand-Ins Sessions -- Okkervil River's publicity project inviting friends to cover their great new album -- comes courtesy of David Vandervelde (whose own work we just revisited the other day). As the Will Sheff & A.C. Newman take on "Lost Coastlines" suggested, this is going to unfold sequentially, and so today's offering is the second proper song from the new album, "Singer Songwriter." Warning: Will doesn't contribute to this one, and neither does anyone with working knowledge of light metering.
Miss the band, but David hits it right and it's poetic having "Singer Songwriter" come from a singer songwriter. The Stand-Ins is out 9/9 via Jagjaguwar, and David's Waiting For The Sunrise is out via Secretly Canadian.

Love this, but the OR version has quickly become one of my favorites of theirs.
"You've got outsider art from an artist who arguably kidnapped a kid on your wall" = awesome. (Even with the dangling modifier).

I guess i'm totally alone here, but i was underwhelmed when i listened to the Stand Ins. I just feel like i've heard these melodies a hundred other times. Maybe i'm totally wrong. sigh

How unexciting.

I think this is, without a doubt, the worst song on the album. This version isn't too bad, though.
